GTA5 has been crashing after like half hour/45mins. Whilst playing Anno 1800 or Assassin's Creed Odessy for over an hour there are no crashes.

PC: i7 3770k, GPU: 1080 Gaming X OC to +110 core clock, +200 memory, 16gb ram

This is during gaming and the green transparent line is after the crash.

The Desktop Window Manager has registered the session port.

Seems like an issue begins with Desktop Windows Manager? I am playing bordeless window. This seems to work best. Had issues with fullscreen.

Anyone have any ideas?

So, first things first, have you tested your GPU OC recently and have you tested the game without said OC for more than a couple of hours? That would be my first port of call, all it takes on that engine is a couple of core errors and it crashes. And I know, if all other games run fine, why not this? It's very common, it just takes the engine crying about a couple of errors.

Run OCCT GPU stress test (shaders x8) and see if you get errors after 1 hour.

Secondly, have you ran memtest recently?

The 0xc0000005 is a very generic access error, this could be a bad file state or as mentioned above, a faulty memory stick. You mention this normally happens after a x amount of time, it's possible the caching fails in the engine due to a memory error.

Lastly, a good ol' reinstall of the game as well as a driver sweep and reinstall?

Will try those 3 options.

I've gone down the route of troubleshooting the Event Viewer warning to do with runtimebroker.exe. However these warning are apparently OK?

There are several other possibilities like now using AIO with Kraken g12, memory overheating, also the riser cable, also the overclock.

However none are apparent with other games.

Anyway will return with some findings :)

Update:

Run OCCT full res, shaderx8 - over an hour, no errors.

Hmmm, still wouldn't hurt to try without an overclock on GPU just incase GTA 5 is being funny.

Shy of that, maybe try as the KungFu said, enable full screen vsync? Even if it's not what you want, just tinker with options to see what gives you stability to work backwards from.

Some games are much more sensitive to an overclock than others. Eg I can run COD on my max OC for hours but BF4 will crash after 10 mins.

If I lower the OC on the gpu the game runs without an issue.

Try putting the GPU at stock settings and see what happens.

Think you're right!!

I clocked it down from +125mhz to +110 and it seems stable. Ramped up the quality settings and frames have reduced a little (trying to push the card) and reducing the clock speed (alt tabbing out of the game) and +110mhz seems to be fine!!!

When refresh rate is 115mhz matching my monitor, the GPU is utilised 99% constantly, have the gaming running for last two hours and no issues. I noticed on persistent +95% gpu utilisation the game would crash.

Final speeds are 2088mhz core and 5215mhz memory.

Thanks all!!

Though, the GPU never goes over 45C the case is toasty inside lol

Im glad you got it sorted. Welcome to overclocking ;)

Well done mate! As I and others have said, some engines run in very different ways despite being based upon the same API's of DirectX. If ever I get game crashes, I remove my OC's and test, 9 times out of 10 it's just the game being silly and not liking the higher frequencies.

Thank! So I had the game running for about 4 hours in a dense part of the scene, 99% usage with dynamic environment (on a bike by some tree and traffic). And no crashes.

5 hours later started the game and within 5mins crashed.

Restarted and no crash for few hours.

I'm cool with that, but must be a GTA thing. But much happier with stable enough overclock.

Side note, overclocked gpu by 60mhz and 100mhz on i7 3770k with two Krakens x63 on CPU and x53 on GPU and damn my room gets hot and the inside of the case is toasty!! Had the PC for 8 years though :)

I think your PC has very low characteristics for this game.

Is that a underhanded passive agressive dig at my PC!!!!

LOOL

I know, but its decent, I get like 50-60fps 99% GPU usage and similar CPU usage. Mostly 'very high' settings.

I'm playing the waiting game, i'd love the new CPUs 7nm high performance low power, the i5 10600k looks wicked, but high TDP and watching for Ryzen 4k.

Once that ryzen 4k is out and clarity on LGA1200/pcie4, I'll bite and upgrade!!

His build is fine for GTA 5... i7-3770k OC'd, 1080 OC'd... That's still on par with todays mid specs.

The 1080 comes out the same performance give or take as a 2060 super. The CPU could certainly do with an upgrade, I'll give you that, but even then, a capable gaming rig.
