Friend of mine has got an old computer that had win 7 installed trouble is it's to low spec, pent 4, 1 gig of ram etc. he's tried to put win xp on it. I think he's formatted the drive and started installation. I thought I read somewhere that you can't do this, anyway the problem is now every time it boots up gets the message ... load from CD......system error. Nothing works ie keyboard so can't even get into the bios, anyone got any ideas if anything can be done or is it a throwaway job now ?

Reset CMOS, try install again 
Will it not boot from the windows disc? That's your first port of call.
If you still can't get into bios try clearing CMOS (take the battery out of the motherboard, wait a while then put it back)
If you are using a USB keyboard, try a PS/2 one.
