So I phoned the missus earlier on her mobile to see how she was...

Her: "Hi, my battery is really low so it might die, but hi, I've got a confession....I've done something really bad and you are going to go mad...."

Me: "Oookaay..."

Her: "I've scraped the car and it's really bad."

Me: "...OK..."

Her: "I was in Asda trying to park and I hit this low wall, then I tried to get back out and made it worse. It's right down the whole passenger side of the car"

Me: "OK..... how bad is it?"

Her: "Well it starts from just behind the front wheel and goes back to just before the rear wheel"

Me: "Great"

So basically it's a 2002 reg Vauxhall Zafira 2.0 DTI in black. It sounds like she has done all of the lower sill down nearside including both doors, possibly front wing and rear 3/4 panel. In places it's apparently down to the metal and "quite bad".

We paid £2600 for this about 2 months ago from a trader. Do you think this will be written off or repaired?

I have protected no claims (I think) and about a £250 excess I believe, but no courtesy car.

:(

Cheers

Its your lucky day! Don't worry, good news.

The Zafira will be written off so you'll no longer own a Vauxhall :)

To be fair in the world of budget family cars, the Zafira does the job pretty damn well.

I'd imagine it will be repaired, depends how bad she hit it. :D

LOL you bar steward ;) To be honest it's a good runaround. yes it's a boat on wheels and a vauxhall but, it was cheapish and is practical with kids and yes we do use the 7 seats. (not that I have that many kids!)

of the Missus of course, to see if this action is forgiveable or not :p

It's forgivable depending on the treatment I get tonight (and all week) ;)

How can you scrape the whole length of the car? Surely once you hit something you stop lol

Trust me, I had this conversation with myself many times over. Complete failure of huge proportions trying to park. Stupid bint.

Who cares if a car is waiting, let them wait. It's better than a broken car. If it's a bad as it sounds, it'll be a write off.

My wife once hit a low wall very slowely and, in describing her next action, she said a sentence I will never forget for my natural life

'I thought it'd be best if I tried to just power it through'.

Yep, you heard right. She's hit something solid. Made of concrete and bricks. And decides to 'power it through' to minimise the damage to the car. Unbelievable. A lack of common sense that is almost unfathomable! And from a 'fender bender' to '£1900 to fix please mate' in about 4 seconds.

Mine said something very similar about this incident - something about being in the middle of the manoeuvre and also thought best to carry on.

If its a 2.5k zafira obviously bought for practicality why not just leave it? You dont have to claim.

To be honest I hope it is written off in a way. Saying that I just put a full year tax on it and serviced it :(
She's sent me an email now saying she's really sorry etc. Maybe I should adopt the tactic of buying her flowers (petrol station ones will do) on the way home and when I walk in demand she forgets it and not to worry and here's some flowers to make you feel better. Reckon that would legally bind me to receive sex on demand for a while?
