Another "is my car a write off thread" !

If its a 2.5k zafira obviously bought for practicality why not just leave it? You dont have to claim.

There's always that. Judging by the reports of it being down to the metal though, I'm not sure I want to let it rust through the winter and end up devaluing to the point of being worthless and hence costing me literally the money I paid for it.

I'm sure you could pick up some new doors and get them sprayed for a few hundred quid. Might be the best option, although they may not be immaculate.

Well I will update tonight with the damage pics, but I think from her description it might have damaged the sill all the way accross it as well. Yeah I could do a bodge cheap repair, but to be honest once it gets more than £250 I may as well save myself the hassle and get it done on insurance if I decide I care.

Time to put on my 'Oprah' hat ..

Yea play the 'nice guy' card. Sounds like she's already beat herself up about it, so hardly needs you to (figuratively speaking) put the boot in as well. After all, what would be the purpose? To make her more sorry? More uncomfortable? Naah - no good.

Buy her the flowers .. it'd make your marriage even stronger if you prove that when you said 'better or worse' you really meant it. Also, when in 7 months time you accidentally run over the cat - you've got a 'get out of jail free' card rather then a partner seeing an opportunity for revenge ..

Best to take a look at it before mnaking any decisions. You may find that although its a nasty scratch it may be simply best to just ignore it and cover it with a thin strip of rattlecan paint to avoid it getting any worse. In the nicest possible way the zafira isnt bought for its looks and its not as if a scratch is going to impact its practicality :)

My wife once hit a low wall very slowely and, in describing her next action, she said a sentence I will never forget for my natural life

'I thought it'd be best if I tried to just power it through'.

Yep, you heard right. She's hit something solid. Made of concrete and bricks. And decides to 'power it through' to minimise the damage to the car. Unbelievable. A lack of common sense that is almost unfathomable! And from a 'fender bender' to '£1900 to fix please mate' in about 4 seconds.

Loving that "I've started so I'll finish" logic.

Hahaha :D

Id do this.

Just buy her some flowers, fix it with either some scrap doors or a spray can job, some people have got decent results from just cans on here. :)

:)

It's not her fault. Just cuddle her, close your eyes and imagine killing her. It's the best way.

LMAO

How dare you! I'll have you know I've been dreaming of buying one since 1999!!

;)

Tbh, does it needs to be repaired, if repairing costs more than the car is worth, might as well leave it as it is, at least you'll have a car you don't have to worry about leaving it in dodgy places any more...

Sounds even better...

This reminds me of when I bought a new set of alloys at a cost of nearly £600, had them fitted to the car, and then two days later I get a "oh by the way" dropped in on to the end of a "hi what kind of day are you having" call to my ex wife.
"Oh, by the way I've had a little bit of an accident in the car, nothing bad"
"Riiight" (expecting perhaps a knocked bumper or something, mabye a small scratch)
"Yes there was this car coming the other way down this narrow street and we couldnt both get past so I had to mount that big curb to drive past it...."

Cue £600 worth of two day old alloys, completely minced.
I went spare.

UPDATE:

I went home with some flowers for her and gave her a cuddle and said not to worry about the car. < softy.

I had a look and she's exaggerated it a bit I think. I don't think it is a write off at all. The front door is just about untouched. it basically goes all along the side skirt and then on the rear door is a bit butchered. The rear 3/4 panel is untouched. So if the cost of a new door and sideskirt plus spray/labour comes to more than £250 I may as well get it done on insurance.

Doesnt look like the end of the world.

Your car is a nice dark colour so if you do decide to repair it or get another door from a scrappy (or another owner from some sort of Zafira owners club if one exists), then the body shop wont have to worry much about paint matching when they spray it.

to be honest, id get a new door in the same colour from a breakers and touch up the sill with some filler.

Wouldnt claim for that on a £2000 motor.

But then I may be missing something as pics not too good

I'd just ignore that completely, hardly much damage. Maybe go over it with a rattlecan if you are worried about it rusting.
