Another maths question!

Do we all get a share in your A-level for helping you with your coursework? :)

And it's zero significant figures because your answer is in m/s and your best precision for meters is zero. They don't give you any decimal places for it. However, you only round off at the end when giving the answer. Not before.

It says in the question that the conversion from miles to metres is to the nearest metre. That means your answer can't be more accurate than the nearest metre so round to 24m/s.

Absolutely! I'm sure we can all fit the hat at the same time!

//For the record, I do seem to be struggling a bit with basic maths which is driving me up the wall because I it was always one of my strongest subjects at school (maybe all those years living in Amsterdam took their toll!). This is part of my engineering degree which I'm doing and even though this is basic stuff to most, just chatting on here with you guys is really helping the pennies drop, seems I overthink even the most basic things to the extreme (that last question? I literally had three pages of A4 doodles trying to figure it out, when in reality it's three lines of numbers to calculate it).

I might get some private tuition for a bit just to catch up on things, given that engineering is so maths orientated.

As silly as it might seem, this thread is really helping, so thanks for that :)

Well that's okay then, so long as it's helping. :)

As to being rusty - maths is something you need to keep in practice with just like programming and languages. It'll come back! :)

It's fluid dynamics I'm dreading the most

You're doing fluid dynamics? HA-HA-Ah *Ah-em* I mean excellent. May I recommend the following books to prepare:

Curious what you guys think of this one:

The maths behind it seem fairly straightforward, but the thing that's getting me is that fact that the student failed one of her ICMAs and from what I can tell, there is no way to see how this affects the score. Am I being a dumbass again?

I think you should do your own homework...

if you're struggling on questions from some GCSE level module that you probably wouldn't even have to take as part of the degree if you'd done your homework at school then I'm not sure getting others to give you answers now is helpful. It is better to work through this stuff yourself, even if you're struggling.

Presumably the part which says the overall score is based only on the marks you gain on your TMAs. So as long as they pass the required number of iCMAs it's academic. I'm also inclined to agree with dowie (there's a first!) that soon you must leave the nest. ;)

Oh make no mistake I'm learning a hell of a lot, and dowie does have a point, I'm just using GD as my study group issall :p

The question is obviously more aimed at reading comprehension as the answer to my question is in the very next line of text! Facepalm.jpg
