You are partially mistaken. If you look carefully you will see that the Truetype text is finer. It's not a simple 2:1 scaling on each axis. One pixel does not become four. It is, however, true for bitmapped fonts, though. If you were to put a 32" 1080p monitor beside it you would see that Truetype text on the 4k monitor looks much nicer.

Well at least I get some value out of 4K then!!
 
these are 2 of the monitors i was considering.

one is VA and curved but more expensive, and the IPS flat and slightly cheaper. The LG has a review saying they got it for £270 in a recent sale, so the current price feels over priced in that case.


 

any thoughts on the above monitor and why it's got £300 reduction in price?

Here is a review. They see HDR400 as the biggest issue
