I have an Asus P5 Deluxe MB & a Lian Li pC7 chassis for a new rig and am in the process of putting it all together. I probably haven't read the mb manual properly and don't have internet access at home (NTL balls up!!) so am having to access internet away from home which is not easy! Hence my question:

I read the sticky about building and it mentions risers - hmm...can;t remember reading about themin the manual, just the screws to the m/b. What do they look like? If I raise the m/b I have a feeling the screws supplied will not reach the back plate - am I right or just paranoid?

Cheers

AB

PS No tittering about the thread title please!!! :p

Risers are the hexagonal parts that screw into the motherboard tray. They're also called "standoffs" in some manuals.

If you screw your motherboard directly to the tray it will either not come on at all, or reset constantly because the whole PCB will be grounded.

The brass risers or standoffs are expected to be used and providing you use those that came with your case (or are pre-fitted, in some cases they are), the board will fit fine (it will match up with the IO shield).

Ah, the dim light bulb of my brain has suddenly brightened....so thats what they are...doh! heh. I'm sure they aren't mentioned in the manual, or the Lian manual.

I'm still sure the screws I have are too small....I will see what happens tonight.
