My dad regularly goes to clock fairs and knows his stuff when it comes to clocks and watches,

The last time he came back he brought back a Rolex submariner,

He says it's real but says it with a smirk,

Was wondering if anyone at ocuk can confirm?

Sorry about the rubbish phone pics, i will try to get some better quality pics up later

To the matter in question , it is fake

difficult to give all details due to poor pics but

1. cyclops date magnification wrong

2. fonts on bezel wrong , 3 (30) is too round , 2 (20) totally wrong , 0 (10) too wide

3. case lugs should extend below first link ( level on the fake )

give me better pics and I will find more :)

Spotting the difference between real Rollies and fake ones can be quite tricky.
I have a genuine Sub LV and my son has a replica Sub LV. To the casual observer you would think that they were the same. It is when you put them side by side you see massive differences in features and quality.
You would expect it though as his watch cost 36 x less than mine. The genuine article engineering is stunning, even when viewed with a loupe.
I resized the bracelet on mine, max time about 15 mins, screws out, links out and then rescrew. Easy.
On my sons, about 90 mins. Screws with poorly formed slots, screws that would not turn, screws that would not relocate in the thread properly etc. Eventually, job done.
On the other hand he is really pleased with his 3 fake Rollies and at age 14 good luck to him. I would much rather that he spent his mowing round earnings on watches than beer, cigarettes or much worse!

look at the second hand, if it moves 1 sec by 1 sec its a fake, coz rolex secound hands moves without pausing

A real Rolex with a 3135 calibre movement moves in 1/8th of a second intervals

Some fakes will have a similar operation ( mechanical movement ones )

As you say though if it oves in one second jumps it is definitely a fake

and so do the replicas. Quite a lot of watches have sweeping second hands. Not just rolex's or even expensive watches.

I know they are a statement of wealth (to a degree), but who actually owns one because they like it?

Most of the Rolexs I've seen are horrid. I wouldn't wear that even if it is worth a few k.

I'd imagine almost everyone that owns one does so because they like it. Looks are subjective.

Bumpy bump.

To save starting a new thread on a rather small question, I'll post it in here. I've been looking for a watch winder for my Vostok K-3 and all the ones I can find are rather expensive. All I really want is a cheap one, maybe £15 or so just to put my watch on at night. Does anyone know where I can find such a thing?
