Hi,

Its been awhile since I bought anything to upgrade my PC, so im totally out of the loop.
My current System is a q6600 overclocked to about 3.2ghz, X48 mobo, 4gig of RAM and a lowly ATI HD4850.
It Still runs most games ok, but wuth some of the new releases it looks like it will struggle, mainly Im after keeping up with SHOGUN 2 and BF3.

So, Im looking for an NVIDIA card ideally, the 4850 has turned me off ATI for some reason.
I dont really know whats a good card these days, was also wondering if I owuld notice much difference in performance or if my current system would bottleneck it too much? Its tempting to build a new system, but I would need to do it in stages, thinking GFX first.

Ive got a budget of roughly £250, mayble a we bit more if I can get a good deal.

Any thoughts?

For that money I'd be buying a gtx570 and nothing else. They are starting to fall into that price bracket now. I'm tempted myself but it's a bit more than I want to spend so may go for the Asus gtx480 for around £200.

Im must admit im not up to date on GFX cards atm. Is the 580 just a newer version of the 480? I used to have a GTX280 which died, loved that card.

Anyone summarise the difference between the 480 adn the 570?

This is the 2st part of the upgrade, planning on an i7 in a month or two after the GFX,

Toms Hardware:

Our opinion of Nvidia's $349 GeForce GTX 570 changes depending on the frame of reference. Compared to Nvidia’s GeForce GTX 480—the short-lived flagship—GeForce GTX 570 is a home run. It’s faster, cooler, quieter, and less expensive. Relative to GeForce GTX 580, the 570 performs and is priced appropriately.

Very little difference in Anandtechs benchmark comparison:

The 580 is the faster cooler version of a 480. A 570 is a bit worse than the 580. The heirarchy is
580
480
570

O wuold get the 480 superclocked like me ;).
