Is it just me or is there a lot of this going round? Came home last night to find my computer wouldn't start up. Thought nothing of it, hoping for it to be fine when I woke up today. No such luck. Everything powers up; fans, HDD's, DVD, all LEDS light up etc. No beeping which I usually get.

I've tried starting with 1 stick of RAM, no effect. No sticks of RAM also have no effect (was expecting beeping telling me there wasn't any RAM present).

Gonna try resetting the CMOS later, but was wondering if there was anything else I should try?

Specs-

e6600 2.4ghz @3.5ghz
Asus P5B Deluxe
2x2Gb Kingston Hyper-X PC2-8500
240 WD HDD
1TB Samsung F1 Spinpoint HDD

Sounds like a known problem with the P5B delux, my brother had the exact same issue. I suggest you hop on over to the Asus forums to find out more about this issue.

From memory I recall one detailed thread explaining the issue with a step by step guide on how to fix (although this never worked for my bro, so the mobo ended up going in the bin). But basically the P5B the bios would default the RAM speed or something. The solution was to put some slower RAM in (5400 for example), it would then boot allowing you to go into the bios and correct RAM settings.

its strange, i've been running this board for just over 2 years and have had no problems. The RAM in it now is relatively new, but up until yesterday I had no problems with it.

If it's case of ram speed then a BIOS update should fix that, in the mean time just take out battery for 5 minutes, pop it back in and everything should be back to normal.

Found the thread I was referring to

I'll tell you how to fix it (besides the RMA option).
Asus's P5K boards don't like fast RAM (I have Ballistix 8500) and could NOT make the MB POST to save my life after the thing ran perfectly for MONTHS.
Fix: Clear CMOS for 10 minutes or so....Get some SLOW RAM. Cheap stuff. Fast RAM will NOT work. Put it in. The machine should POST. Then, you can put your sticks back in and should be able to POST.
I've done this. It's either that or RMA.

thanks gfor the thread, but im on a P5B... dunno if that'll make a difference.

Tried taking the battery out for at least 5 minutes, cleaned my case out too just for laughs. No difference though, still not posting. Not having fun anymore...

Damn, that ends the 100% success rate of 'remove the battery' fix, every time I've suggested the fix it's fixed the problem.

I can only suggest you either try the cheap/slow ram fix or get a new board or RMA it if you still have warranty.

ok, quick update. Tried a different cpu (just in case) but didn't work. Tried slower RAM, still didnt work. Does this mean my mobo is fubar'd? Or is there something else I haven't thought of trying?
