A plane crashes with 153 people on board.......yes, I think we would have heard and cared about it regardless!

I used to take over a hundred flights a year for nearly 10 years, and must have taken close to a thousand flights in my life. These things happen, but more planes run safely than crash. It's just when they do crash it makes more of a mess. I don't think it's on the increase at all - it might just be reported more though.
There's only been about 15-20 or so "big" crashes over the past 10 years really, and the number of people killed on the road each year probably amounts to more than that total. Yes it's horrid etc... but the only reason it makes news is because a plane tends to make a bigger impression on people when/if it crashes.

I'm not frightened by flying, I just get really excited. My dream job is fling for the RAF (shame it never happened) but I understand why people are so fearful.
I think if you understand the mechanics of the plane, and the forces involved you feel more comfortable knowing that you're not just going to fall out of the sky

Who knows that? Given the spate of recent airliner incidents, I find that comment slightly strange.
Anyway flying is just another thing that most people just need to do to live their lives. The sooner you accept that nothing is risk-free in life and you could be struck down by anything at any point, it's just life, the sooner you can forget about the dangers and get on living your life to the fullest.
Going by that article, the aircraft had known faults, if they were not addressed then there has been a maintenance failure. So whoever was operating the aircraft is at fault surely.
Aircraft have detailed maintenance schedules for a reason. A properly maintained aircraft should have no major problems at all.

Dang! Airbuses and bad weather do not mix (going by why they think it went down)
Just another reason why i wont fly in those crappy Airbus's...seems that they are always the ones crashing...think ill stick to Boeing plus i prefer Boeing aircraft...the only Airbus id fly is the A380...which my bro flew back in April on his honeymoon to Bali and Singapore..said it was nice plane...lots of room in econo class.
