hiya
i,ve been offered a 2.3 ltr duratec from an R Reg Granada scorpio auto.
i am thinking of putting it in my mk2 escort project with a pair of throttle boddies and a megasquirt ecu.
just wondered what the 2.3 engines were like from the granada's i know the earlier 2.0 ltr i4 8 valve lump they put in the sierra's was ok but this is a twin cam 16 valve.
anyone played with these engines before.

cheers for input guys sounds like a good base engine for a project then.
i was going to use jenvey or bike throttle bodies with megasquirt v3 ecu.
i would be happy for around 180-200bhp using a mt75 gearbox and a capri 3.09 axle

IIRC the Scorpio OR the Granada was never fitted with a Duratec - that's a much, much later engine. The Scorpio came with either:

- 1.8 L 4cyl DOHC
- 2.0 L 4cyl DOHC
- 2.4 L 12v V6
- 2.9 L 12v V6
- 2.9 24v Cosworth V6

So what you've got either isn't from a Scorpio, or is one of the above :)

The Duratec, regardless, is quite a good engine for tuning with as you state, a reasonable top BHP (reasonable meaning "not costing tens of thousands") of around 230BHP. Usually this can be attained with fresh cams, pistons, rods, bottom end bolts, proper timing and a decent fuelling system.

It is, however, a very tall engine. May be worth checking out :)

definetly a 2.3 engine 16 valve so *** engine is it

is it worth buying as i have had trouble myself finding any info about it being in a granada.
am i right in saying it is an i4 engine similar to the escort mk5 rs 2000

I don't think the Duratec and RS2000 lump have much in common - besides the fact they've got 16 valves, 4 cylinders and an inline configuration :p . Why? Thinking of a transplant?

just the fact that i can buy a 16 valve 2.3 granada engine cheaper than a 8 valve i4 equivalent from a sierra.

ok peeps thanks for your input i will give the engine a miss.
just fancy something different in the old girl i thought about the zetec route but i have already put a 2.0ltr one in my fiesta with the mondeo 136ps ecu just for a cheepie run about.
is it worth going the NA cossie route as i already have a head sitting in the garage and an old 2.0ltr 205 pinto engine sitting in the mk2 escort.
