Another PS3 or 360?

This.

I'm also dubious about 2nd hand PS3s, especially older phats, and even Wiis.

Haven't known a Wii to fail on anyone I know yet, lost count of the 360 and PS3's though. Glad none of the 360's I had never RROD. My launch PS3 is still hanging there but I want to get a slim to replace it.

It would be nice to hear from someone who owns both.

I have a few friends who own both of these systems and they genuinely think there's no difference between the two as far as game availability, game play, third party apps (PS3 MEdia Server or XBMC) goes. Regardless of what one person says because they own the system or what they were told by the game shop boy (who are 90% of the time full of it).

So really it's up to you mate but which ever you choose will be a good choice.

This tbh, just go with what your mates have no point clutching at straws with what are on the majority, subtle differences.

Ironically my Wii was the only console that failed in it's first year. If you listen to P1 Podcast, Phil's Wii has failed him 3 times now.

I started of with a PS3 as it provided more than the 360 could and I wasn't bothered about online gaming (That's what I had the PC for). I recently bought a 360 though as there were a few games kicking around I wanted to try and was fed up with of most of mates talking about xbox live the night before, felt left out. I now play the 360 more out of the two consoles, but will go back and forth when a new game is released on the PS3.

I think the 360 will get more use in the long run though, pretty much every one of my friends has the 360 and only 1 or 2 have a PS3, so it makes more sense to buy the majority of games on the xbox and only really get the PS3 exclusives. Then again the PS3 gets used a lot for blu ray and also playtv, so again it equals it out. But for a purely gaming console I go with the 360. Work out what console your mates have and make your choice on that.

The wii however makes an appearance when a new mario galaxy game comes out :p

Unless there's some specific games that you want that are exclusive to one of the consoles or have friends that only play online on one there's very little difference, especially since the PS3 has began to catch up on its games catalogue.

I'd go for the PS3/fixing your PS3 because it has blu ray, I assume you already have some games for it. Other minor things like, no subscription to play online, better internet access (for iplayer, streaming tv etc) and its possible/cheaper to put a bigger hard drive in it are nice to.

I also prefer the UI and streaming on the PS3 but that's more just personal preference, though the friends features arn't as good.

Hey, my input was based upon Friends and internet reviews, i was stuck in the same boat as the OP i ended up with the PS3 for a few reasons,
Looks, Size, Brand, Functions and the fact that it is free to play multiplayer.
Many of my Friends have XBoxs and PS3's each week they rave of one and rage the other.

So based on that, PS3 MUST win?
Right...?

A little bit better than your initial response, but you still reach the same conclusion. Neither wins. In my opinion, it depends which one your friends all play on. I wouldn't want to be stuck with just a PS3 because all of my mates game online with the 360. Fortunately, I have both. I just use the 360 much, much more often.
