Wrong. I've installed it on over 50 machines of different spec and not a single problem. In fact it's resolved a number of issues.

your meant to install 2gb of ram with vista and then add the other ram after install has completed

If i'd have read this a few days ago i could've saved you the stress! I had the same probs with my recent new build, a quick email to ocuk help people pointed me in the right direction, checked the ram settings on the shop site then changed them in the bios and all was well on 2 machines...you live and learn!
It can actually be true for the original version of vista (fixed in sp1 media). http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929777
