How can you tell if you've got the speaker connectors back to front?

The frogs don't use standard cable, speakers or connectors so it's going to be a guess as to which is positive and negative.

Ta

use a 1.5v AA or AAA battery. Connect the speaker wires to the + and - ends of the battery and pulse them slightly while watching the speaker. If it moves outward then the + and - are correct. If it moves inward then they are round the wrong way.

That would be ok but i know which way round they go on the speaker what i don't know is which cable is which. there is no line on either of them!

They work as i have them, would they work if they were back to front?

you should be able to hear that theyre out of phase. if not, delibrately put them out of phase and see if its different

if you know what 'out of phase' sounds like, it will be obvious. my chav brother has an 'install' in his clio, i heard it in june time when hed put it in at xmas (6 months earlier)... hed has the fronts out of phase for 6 months

you cant trust chavvers with cars.

the easiest way to tell is play something moderately bassy. when out of phase, bass gets pretty much cancelled out

Connect the wires at the speaker end then attach the battery at the head-unit/amplifier end. If the battery + is on the speaker + then the speaker will pop outwards. If it moves inwards then you have the speaker - on the battery +.

Quite simple really. Takes 2 min to check.

Actually just done it, both fronts were out of phase. I thought they might be as the rears sounded better.

thanks :)

Oh yes :D

I was beginning to wonder of i'd wasted my money - in fact i may have because i suppose there is no guarantee that the other ones were in phase either.

Still, git my discs, pads and full stereo sytem sorted for just over £100 so i'm happy :)
