Well i was under threat from redundency before but survived now the whole site is shutting i will definetly be made redundent.

I have never in my life been in this kind of situation and would be activly job searching.

ive never applied for housing beneifit etc i am in a rented place, and jsa.. what else could i look at claiming just so i dont end up in a deeper pocket of dept.

job searching i am sure i can get on with i am just worrying over direct debits credit card and the other stuff, am i best contacting companies that i owe and trying to arrange something?

also i am only entitled to the goverment redundency my company has no redundency insentive of any kind. :(

any advise anyone can offer i would really appreciate it :(

in terms of benefits. i think you can find information on the yougov website or what ever its called. also. give your council a ring. they will tell you what you can & can't receive. JSA. Council tax. Rent. are the obvious ones

I assume you mean incentive. If so then as far as I know (and I'm no expert on this) its not upto them to decide if they need to pay out redundancy, its down to the situation.
They have to pay statutory redundancy (which is what I assume is meant by government redundancy). Anything else really is up to them.

When you say the "whole site is shutting down" do mean the company itself has other sites which aren't shutting down? If so then the company itself isn't insolvent and by that reckoning they should be paying redundancy to those that are entitled to it (ie proper contracted worker, working >1 or 2 years)

I'm sure others can offer better insight but a few more details on whether its just a single site or the whole company/parent company closing down would help?

Sorry mate im all over the place about it so not making very much sense.

the company has several sites in the UK the site i am currently in is shutting down and moving to the midlands meaning everyone at this site will be going through the redundency process.

ive worked for the company for 5 years on a £13.500 base annual salary according to government calculator id be entitled to around £900ish i think. im also over 21

I would advise you to put in for JSA at the earliest time possible. They allow themselves up to 8 weeks to process a claim(never takes that long but just a warning).

Do it early as if they do drag their feet you may be able to survive on your redundancy pay but it will soon go if you have your rent on top. Keep the landlord happy first.

I found everyone with direct debits really helpful except the water company who called in a debt collector the first time I struggled with payment.

It does depend on if the company has gone into insolvency who pays you the money and how you go about claiming it.

If the company has gone into insolvency then the government will step in and make payments to you for statutory redundancy pay, upto 8 weeks unpaid wages, upto 6 weeks holiday and compensation if you weren't given your full notice. Though to keep in mind all government payments are limited to a maximum £450 per week, but if you salary was under this then you should get paid at your normal salary.

If the company hasn't gone into insolvency then things could be a bit harder as it is your employer that should make the payments to you. Though if they do not you are entitled to take them to Employment Tribunal for this (currently free but I believe they will start charging sometime in the future) for which if your former employer still doesn't pay you can apply to the government anyway and they will pay just the redundancy to you. The downside to this way is that the government doesn't step in for the wages, holiday or notice unlike if they go insolvent.

Any questions just ask :)

Edit: Just seen above. With annual salary of £13500 then you would fall under the limit. Also if the company is moving then it would seem the company isn't going insolvent in which case your claim lies with them for now.

Get yourself to civic centre and job centre. They'll explain the benefits side to you.

Debts - call each creditor and explain situation. You'll not be able to make even minimum payments for most things, so offer them a quid each and ask them to freeze the interest (some will oblige, others wont)

I was in a similar situation in 2010-11, and I was equally clueless as to where to start.

If I were you I'd head off to you're local CAB. They will advise you on the possible benefits and the best way to manage you debts.

Re the redundancy pay it depends on a few things how long you have worked for them, what is actually happening to the company. Are they closing or simply cutting staff.

There's a link here to the government statutory redundancy guide.

https://www.gov.uk/calculate-your-redundancy-pay

As I say, I feel for you I was equally lost, but the CAB will help you. The jobcenter will do nothing to help you, just make you jump through hoops.

Good luck with it and hope you can find something on the jobs front.

*raises hand*

working for same company here. This definately sucks.

Although to be fair they haven't said we are closing, but that they are doing a consultancy on it. However as they've recently closed other units and moved the work to their new premises in the midlands, I can't see them not doing the same here.

I have to say though, if they dont offer to move some of us up there (unlikely as callcentre roll) then I feel really bad for the people taking on the roles i cover without our training, as pretty much even the direct management dont fully understand what we do!
