Can someone take a look at these stats from my router and let me know what they think please?

I get proper carp speeds from what was promised and very rarely see anything over this from speedtest

Cheers all

Unfortunately i'm now learning this is the way the cookie crumbles with ADSL providers. I was told to expect 22meg by BE and now only receive around 13 and that's after loads of tinkering.

All i can suggest is make sure you're set to 'optimise for speed' in your members area and i found disconnecting the ring wire to my phoneline gave me a 10% increase too.

I am on BE,

Your downstream/upstream attenuation seems pretty high, is your router connected to the master socket? can you try it in the test socket? preferably with a new filter and see if you still get the same results?

Is there any noise on the line? (Try plugging in a corded phone in to the BT Master socket test socket and dialling 17070 for a quiet line test)

Line Attenuation (Up/Down) [dB]: 35.5 / 61.5

How far are you from the exchange?

Here are mine for reference (I am around 400 meters straight line distance)

ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 18395 kbps 1416 kbps
Line Attenuation 22.5 db 12.6 db
Noise Margin 4.4 db 3.3 db

It could be distance from exchange, or crap quality or faulty line but you haven't specified how far away you are from the local.

Have just plugged straight into the test socket and am now getting the following

SamKnows has me at 2.38 Km away from the exchange in straight line. i know that i am rather far away, but was wondering if there was anything that I could do to improve my speeds, even slightly?

Quiet test was ok, no noise or popping or crackling heard there. Cant wait until they roll out Infinity here.

I have found our date here in Plymouth, but was also wondering is there any way to find out where BT intend to erect the new cabinets?

4.6mbit looks good for a line that long! do the bell wire thing like the others said and try different makes/models of filter to see which one works best (least errors, most stable snr and highest sync). have the filter plugged into the main socket and all devices go from there, dont use extensions for the adsl modem. is your faceplate wired to take an extension into another room? consider giving that up, mine wont even sync with a filtered extension going upstairs
its unwise to : 'optimise for speed' in your members area, it will make your connection faster but more unstable.

Not keen on removing the bell wire as 1-not sure which one it is and 2-am in a rented flat, so shouldn't mess about really.

Am now going straight into the test socket and only have house phone hanging off the filter unit. Have given up the Sky box as never use the phone line on that and have no use for the other telephone jack points in the flat. Total count for those is 5......guess where the noise was coming from then?

its the full orange with white bands that is the ring wire, just pull it out. if white and orange is connected as well, unplug it too! blue/white and white/blue are the only ones that need to be connected to 2 & 5.
you dont get in trouble for doing this, no one will know and should bt ever come round, they dont care that the ring wire is disconnected as it serves no purpose anymore.

I have a long line with a attenuation of 63db, with ADSL2+ I was lucky to get 2mb & dropped connections, sometimes several times a day.

Got Be to change me to ADSL1, now I get a consistent 3.5mb & no dropped connections.

Also ditch the dongle & treat yourself to a pre-filtered faceplate.

EDIT: Thanks Tipsy, I've removed Item name & link, as I do not want the wrath of the mods or ocuk.

I discovered today a decent filter does indeed make a difference, changed the stock BE one for an 'ok' one that came free with a netgear router and experienced another 0.5meg boost on my line. I've got a XF-1e in the post and hopefully that will help even more. So to sum up:

Changing my profile to 'optimise for speed'
Disconnecting my ring wire
Replacing the cheap stock filter

All of these combined have upped my connection from around 9meg to around 13-13.5meg.

Obviously switching to optimise for speed can affect line stability, but i've not had a single line drop yet so here's hoping.

On the front of disconnecting the ring wire, it can easily be reconnected, but it's down to you i guess. I too live in a rented property but i'm confident i can reconnect it.

I'd honestly change your post as this is how I got a suspension, ocuk sells networking kit so they deem this as advertising so if you dont wanna be banned get it altered.

I'm just trying to help, got teh same kit and yes it does work!
