Another "Spec me a beginner/intermediate RC Plane" Thread

Hi,

I have had a search but cannot really find the answer im looking for

I want to get in to RC, more specifically Airplanes, the only RC Iv owned is a few electric powered monster trucks when I was a kid, and a Picco-Z foamy chopper.

I would like to buy something that is well reccomended as a good learner, but at the same time something that flys well where I can learn all the manourvours and have a realistic as possible taking off/landing scenario. Im going to have around £70-£85 to spend max on my first plane, but if someone recommends something that is cheaper, then great, aslong as it does what I want it to do.

I want to buy it in a kit if possible (not have to buy the Radio tx/reciever seperatly etc) are there many packages about which includes everything you need to get going? or will there still be some extra's I would need?

With regards to the radio iv read that the 2.4ghz 4 or 6 channel would be best, iv seen radios that come with some packages which claim to have a range of 350meters (1000ft). Saying that I have seen other radios with a much further range?

Any help appriciated, and possibly some suggestions so I could start having a look around.

Go to your local model club, and learn with an instructor.

Most clubs have a trainer model that club member can use to get their BMFA licenses with. I got mine when I was about 12-13. So it is not difficult!!

If you are going to buy a model, make sure the radio gear you have is compatible with a buddy system (cable that joins two remotes together - Think like dual controls in a learner car) so you can sync with your instructor, and he can be in control if anything goes wrong.

Generally, best to go to the club, speak to chief instructor, and he/she will be able to advise on the best kit for you. Also, on a first model if you insist on purchasing your own.

If you do get you own model, make sure it is high winged, overpowered, and has decent control throws you can adjust to be more reactive as you learn :)
 
There's a perfect answer to this question and it is Multiplex Easy Star, quite a stable platform for Ariel photography too.
 
I decided to give this a go a few years back... got one called the wing dragon (google it, is the 3ch one not the 4) There is some good videos around of it, just be sure it's not the sportster version :). Compared to a friends this thing was easy to fly. First flight i broke the wheels off :) they were really crap, but after a couple of flights i could fly it right at me and catch it. It really was a good trainer.

After a couple of months i really trashed it with a monster crash and it was to expensive to carry on.

Fantastic starter kit though you will love how easy it is to get started.

Hmoly Schmoly! It's a 16 year bump!

I'm having a clearout and this is something my wife bought for me many moons ago. Wondering how much I can sell all this for. Multiplex Funman plane, Spektrum DX6i, 2x 1350mah lipos, charger and all associated plugs and cables. Basically a whole beginner set, BNIB, albeit a decade old.

Absolutely no clue what this is worth, or even whether I should sell it as a pack or individual items. Any ideas?
