My son wants a rig that will do a lot of photoshop stuff quickly; not into games but wants good graphics and mucho speed for the PS stuff ...... I said that I'd ask my young whiz kid buddies to help him/me out so ......

I think he's looking at £800 without monitor.

Thanks for your time and effort if you wouldn't mind having a go. :)

For photoshop and light gaming, I personally don't think you need more than this:

AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 3800+ (Socket 939) - OEM (CP-152-AM)
£193.82
Asus A8N-E nForce4 Ultra (Socket 939) PCI-Express Motherboard (MB-088-AS)
£72.79
GeIL 2GB (2x1GB) PC3200 Value Dual Channel Kit CAS3 (GE2GB3200BDC) (MY-046-GL)
£129.19
PowerColor ATI Radeon X800 GTO16 256MB GDDR3 TV-Out/DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail (GX-055-PC)
£123.32
Hitachi Deskstar T7K250 NCQ 250GB SATA-II 8MB Cache - OEM (0A31636) (HD-002-HI)

£32.84

£61.04
Arctic Cooling Freezer 64 Pro CPU Cooler (Socket 754/939/940) (FG-000-AR)
£15.22

Total inc VAT: £698.66

That's not a bad spec

Yep, i think the X2 4400+ with extra L2 cache is the CPU to go for.
This is the spec to go for imo.
