Mr2 is a good shout actually. What are the main things to look out for?

All turbos are jap imports and for your budget a rev3 is probably best, they will vary from £2500 - £4000 depending on condition and mods, probably best to buy one with a few mods on, will make insurance more expensive, but save you having to do them yourself.
Wear in the suspension components is common, shocks, droplinks, top mounts and balljoints. Worn top mounts can cause a knock. Check the turbo is healthy, blue smoke from the exhaust is indicative of worn turbo seals. If it's a t-bar then the seals will likely leak if they're the original ones.
Very tyre sensitive car and will wear through a set of rears in about 6k.
Most cars you come across will have been modded which will make insurance more pricey, standard cars are quite rare.

Meant to be a very fun and fast car to drive and generally quite reliable.
