My friend is looking for a PC for about £500.
His machine will be used for gaming, web browsing and Microsoft office, maybe the odd bit of PS. He needs an OS.

I was thinking Phenom x4 (maybe sandybridge?) and a 5770 or 460 but you lot will have some better suggestions I'm sure. Fire away OCUK!

What resolution is his monitor? Get a 6850 for 1920x1080/1200, or a 5770 for 1600x1050.

A decent i5-760 system with a 6850 will push to nearly £600, and it's likely that an i5-2500K with a 5770 would cost about the same due to higher motherboard prices.

I'd be tempted to go for an Athlon II X4 with 4 gigs of RAM and whichever graphics card is best for you.

Comes in a bit over putting all in, is that acceptable or do you need it under £500? Could get an older 700 series mobo (edit: the one above), reduce the cost a bit, how firm is the £500? Id it absolutely has to be below £500 then dropping the Phenom to an Athlon would be best bet

D'Oh, thought it looked short, couldnt see what was missing, lol
Edited above, and I wouldnt normally do a spec that far over budget either, it wasnt that far over without RAM (you dont need RAM do you? lol)

£479 with postage :D

start with the Xenon Intel Pentium Dual Core E6500 2.93GHz Bundle that will do every thing you want. for GFX you need a strong card that low cost the HIS ATI IceQ Radeon 5670 is better than the can i use and i can play all games so that 100% can. When you making i low cost PC dont fall into the "i need the best of the best trap" just get the best you can and with the setup i have spec you, your good to go

No, of course not. RAM doesn't do anything, hehe.
Stulids build is probably the best, he's having a look through it at the moment.

agreed

though as I say that case/psu combo is out of stock atm, if youre ordering today/soon (not knowing when itll be back in sotck) use stulids build with my case and psu separates, thats if you can go £20 over?
