Here goes...
My first post but I have been lurking for a couple of months stealing ideas and feeding on everyones knowledge. I'm a complete noob to this (my current PC is a HP from a well known retailer) and although I'm not a typical geek (if it exists), I'm looking forward to becoming one! :D
This spec is meant to be fairly high spec, but pinching a few pennies here and there (hence C5 memory). I'd like to learn to overclock, but at the moment have no clue at all. I have already purchased the case, so this can't change although I wish I'd got an Antec P180. Please feel free to tell me if anything is crappy, Thanks a lot!

You guys love "spec me" threads really, admit it! :p

Yeah, we love them.

I have a P180, they're really nice. If you want me to something bad about them, they weigh a ton! Your case will be less of a strain on your back!

A little points on your otherwise perfect spec there...

DVD - Why Plextor? Pioneer 111 series are the best IDE ones, and Samsung and NEC do very good SATA ones. I'd go for one of them.

GFX - Excellent choice (same as mine)

CPU - See above :D

RAM - Good RAM, but you might be spending too much there. I'd go with the cheapest 2GB of 6400 there is, but up to your really. I don't think the corsair will clock a lot higher than the Geil.

HD - good

PSU - excellent

Sound - do you need a sound card, really? The on board stuff is really good high definition. I'd loose it, and save yourself some dosh.

Regarding overclocking, get yourself some good fans (120mm Nexus, Papst, or S-Flex) for the case and a Tuniq Tower, or Scythe Mine/Ninja for the CPU.

Thanks mate, much appreciated.
i think I'll go for a Samsung drive and a Scythe ninja.
Is there any gain with the sound card? I believe they've sold well, must be something surely?
Do I need to replace the case fans with the ones you mentioned or add them extra?
Do I need to buy extra cables?
Could you give me your thoughts on this, also please. I don't mean to be a pain.

what do you think?

as far as i can tell it has everything you want and more, very compatable and easily overclocked. the only other thing you could do is: spend more on the monitor, and/or choose oem cpu and buy another cpu cooler.

this system will rock mate:)

You're very welcome

An excellent choice.

You could always get one later if you found the onboard sound to be unsatisfactory.

You would have to add them extra. Whether you need them, is another matter. You could just see how it goes with the ones in the case.

Don't think so.

No experience of it I'm afraid. THX sounds good, but this probably because I am a huge Star Wars fan :D

Thanks again.

Big monitors are nice. Hopefully someone with a better understanding of monitors and speakers will come along...
