Hello,

Just have a few queries about SSD's I've not been able to find on other threads.

I'm buying a OCZ Agility 120GB SSD with the intention to use it for OS and games, I wanted to know though is it recommended to use it for Firefox? I'm not the kind of person who saves cookies / history at all, deleting them upon exiting. Is this going to cause problems in the long run with constant writing and deleting of small files?

Other is the use of Steam on the drive, it has it's own defrag utility and the way it updates concerns me a little.

Also would it be recommended to install the Firewall/Anti-Virus/Spyware software onto the SSD or another drive?

I would also like to know this from those who have bought SSD's.

Apart from OS, what other progs do you generally put on the SSD? Perhaps easier, what shouldn't be installed to the SSD/.

Firstly, I doubt deleting the cookies is going to shorten the life of your ssd by anything noticable. Also I have had no problems with steam, and yes it's okay to install the spyware/antivirus programs on it.

Secondly, There really is no app/prog that "shouldn't" be installed on a ssd. I have a wide variety from games, to antivirus, to expensive studio software, virtual drives, photoshop, micro office etc. Never once have I had any problems.

Thanks for the Response Ninja, it's good to know instead of been paranoid over what the boundaries are.

You could always setup your virtual memory/cache/user settings on another drive?

I'd pay the few extra £'s and get a G.Skill Falcon. It's exactly the same drive as the OCZ Vertex but the firmware allows it to run a little faster and it's quick a lot faster than the Agility.

You might have to do a little Google searching to secure the best price, but believe me there are some bargins out there.

The only thing you really shouldn't do download large torrent files to it, that I can imagine would shortern it's lifespan a lot faster than most other uses.

Sure, if you're going to use it for transferring large files/video editing sort of stuff. Not worth it IMO for most things though, you won't notice the increased transfer rates. Unless you have a RAID array the only thing you'd have that could tax it would be transferring to RAM, and rarely do you load large files in RAM - possibly some games. Save the money and get an Agility, unless you use it for above reasons/have the money to throw at it.
