Another Tax Question

764L is not a standard code. Is it the code shown on your P45?

It means that there are some deductions included in your code. Do you/did you have a company car, company healthcare etc?

Nope. I dont have anything like that I am a chef.
I rang the inland revenue the other week about it but they were clueless because they cant go back through my tax over the last 5 years as I lived in the Isle of Man for a few years.
However I have worked and lived in England for the past 3 years.

If that's the case, then HMRC will either rebate you via your pay, or send you a cheque. You may need to contact them to arrange this though, it'll get it done sooner. What is the tax code on your payslip currently?

My tax code is 810L M1, which after a quick google is apparently an emergency tax code. Although I'm not sure why I'm on this tax code because I gave my new employer my P45 about 6-7 weeks ago.

Essentially you're on a fixed tax rate, based on your tax paid in Month 1 of the tax year - in this case, at that employer. You'll either have a rebate or balance at the end of the year. A visit to your payroll department or a call to HMRC should sort it out :)
