Well yet another piece of microshaft's awesome 360 hardware bites the dust.
Brother-in-law's 360 rrod'd, and yeah before I hear ' but 3 year extended warranty, ms are sweet etc ', screw that they just lost another customer, he's off to get a ps3.
Now you might say that ' ps3 has no games ', but if your 360 dies then you have no games to play at all so by default there is a lot more playable games with ps3 and the fact that they work.

disclaimer: sorry about the rant but this is the 4th person I know that has been shafted by microsofts shoddy work.

Thats fairly insane logic, he could get his 360 replaced for free and play all the games again, instead fo shelling out on a ps3 and having less games to choose from and having to buy all the games he had for 360 that he wants to play on ps3 all over again!

Is your Brother-in-law someone special like?

Why do we need to hear about it? Fair enough if your console died and you needed help but i thought the console forum and its members have gotten passed the pointless rant at anything stage with the 360.

I suggest he gets it fixed for free, and sell it. Or is he stupid and rich enough just to throw it in the bin?

But he is losing out if he pays out for a PS3 without getting the 360 fixed...

I know at least 12 people with Xbox 360's and every person is still on the original one (and a few are release day ones) with no problems at all....

The only problem I get is the dashboard locking up when viewing friends online....

My 2nd one is about to give up. I had a launch day console that RoD'd a few months back, bought a core and now that has started freezing, got one RoD on it yesterday and it came back on. And it isn't overheating as i got the RoD after it had been on just long enough for me to select what race i want in DiRT.
I seriously don't know what to so with the console if it breaks, i am strongly considering selling up all my 'peripherals' and games, and getting a refund tbh.
To make matters worse, if MS had acknowledges the RoD issue earlier, i wouldn't have tried a DIY repair on my first box and it would have been covered and i could have got that fixed too. But because they kept denying it, i got screwed!

So i feel the pain too mate.

I know four others who have had 360's (other than me) and they have all had problems. One mate went through three and the others have all had discs scratched and ruined.

Personally I dont blame the guy for switching over to a PS3. It used to worry me just turningt he bloody 360 on because of all the RROD stuff I kept hearing - glad I got rid as I dont have cold swets after a few hours of gaming anymore ;)

Yeah but come on, Who wants to buy a 360, play games for a week, send the 360 back when it dies, wait 30 days for the return, play games for a week send the 360 back when it dies, wait 30 days, play games for a week, send the 360 when it dies back, wait 30 days....

Please see the lighter side of this post :p

Did you actually try sending it back or just assume they wouldn't fix it? Mine died TWO DAYS before they extended the warranty and I cracked it open because I wasn't going to pay £90 or whatever to have it fixed outside warranty. Mine is back at M$ at the moment, with some very obvious damage to the clips that hold it together. I figured the worst they can do is refuse to repair it.

Anyway, going over to the darkside next month :-) so I don't care what they do TBH, an extended warranty is no substitue for releasing a product that is known to be faulty....

yeah but come on your over exagurating a touch, i mean i've had a lanuch 360 that i've played every week, ok so im very lucky, but even the unlucky ones are not changing 360 weekly. If i had to choose between playing games on a 360, but having to get it changed every so often or staring at my shiny black ps3 gathering dust while i wait for some games to be released, i know what id choose ;)

I liked my 360 but was always worried when I turned it on and when it was on awhile too, at the end I decided to sell up and grab a PS3.

I will get another 360 when they're selling the revised version as I'd always planned to have both, would like to get the Halo special edition but seems they'll not be revising their new consoles just yet :( Its ok them now deciding to cover the 3 red light thing but you lose your console for a few weeks which is too long.

Yeah i went to D/L the nascar 08 demo and i got a load of errors, i was putting it down to my bammy xbox

bunch of cry babies, "yeh but i wont have my console for 2 weeks if it breaks"

go outside and enjoy the great british summer hah

gimme a console with some stuff to play on it than a doorstopper anyday, even with the risk of it breaking down.

add to that the amount of shafting sony have done to europeans with the ps3 and ppl are still buying it ....it's quite amazing how ppl are willing to get bummed and pay for the priviledge.
