Hi guys

Im looking to upgrade my old SKT 939 amd64 3000 but unsure what to get.

Ideally i would love a E6300 with D3 and DDR2 memory but i think budget will not allow this. Its getting the

So may stick with AMD 939. I have a Foxconn NF4K8ACboard that has allowed my current 3000 to clock to 2.5 ghz and was thinking of a opty 165 dual chip. also has 1 gb of mem.

Whats everones opinion and what would be the best way forward and would the opty be a decent upgrade from the 3000.

Many thanx

yes any opty can at least achieve 2.5 / 2.6Ghz, ones with good steppings can go as far as 2.9 / 3Ghz.

Yes I think it would be a worthwhile upgrade if you are on budget, going all out on a conroe spec is useless if you don't need that much power. Depends on what you use your PC for really.

What is the rest of your rig like??

i have

1gig crucial ram
Foxconn NF4K8ACboard mobo
leadtek 7800gt
160 gig hdd
3000 amd proc

dya reckon the mobo would need flashing? and would i have an issue with the OEM XP that i have?

cheers

If the mobo is more than 1 year old then you probably need to flash the latest bios.

No you won't have any issue with Windows just make sure that under device manager the computer is recognised as a "ACPI Multiprocessor" (think that's what it's called) instead of Uniprocessor.

Also download the A64 driver and dual-core optimiser from the AMD site.
