I really do think Starcraft is worthy enough for me to buy... I am pretty picky with games I buy i.e. I don't buy anything that I do not think is worth its price tag
Thats how I go about it anyways, not sure if most pirates see it that way.

If it were £40, I probably wouldn't touch it.

as should all games cdkey with auth server +dedicated servers = people buy games.
look how successful the battlefield games were for pc the ones designed for the pc they are considered the best online games ever pretty much for the fps crowd even 1942 which is ancient is far more advanced that the modern warfare online games.
its like the pc gaming situation takes a huge step backwords to become simplified console ports look out how complex pc games were in the 90s
Problem is there's too much money involved these days and developers cant be bothered to make proper pc games with some depth to them, not when they can make their profit knocking out simple console games one after the other. As long as the unoriginal repetitive dross keeps selling though, they will keep porting it over.
Its all about numbers, if they sell 1 million at $30 or 10 million at $3 whats the difference ? especially with downloads since the overheads are a lot less than with retail versions. It would be nice to see a major release at $10 to see the effect this would have on numbers sold vs piracy.
Errr, these are indie games...
They don't cost to much to develop.

In a week, I suspect this has already paid for the dev costs.
Just because some big companies pump millions into merely average or poor games doesn't mean everyone does.

World of Goo is great!
It is...pick of the bunch. Penumbra is quite good too. I didn't think much of the others (like that weird ninja rabbit game) but hey, cant complain!

I'm really not getting Aquaria, it's very pretty but I seem to have been swimming around for an hour doing...absolutely nothing :/

i managed to get to the girl/things home, and got told i could make food... then quit
they will, just as much as they would with drm.
However a good pc game will sell more than enough to be profitable.
Problem is for half the effort and twice the advertising budget you can make a generic pap game and make a huge profit.
It's a good way to do business for small companys as people who wouldn't usually buy the games think that they can pay a lower fee and be getting a good deal. So they buy the games for say $5, $5 that the devs wouldn't have got if all the games singularly were $5 each. Thus the devs sell way more games than they would if everyone who wanted them paid full retail for them. It wouldn't work for say the next Grand Theft Auto, as everyone wants it but the majority of people wouldn't pay much for it. This means the devs would lose out as a lot more people would pay retail whatever it cost, purely for the name.
That said, I'm really enjoying Aquaria and might have a bash at some of the others tomorrow seeing as I'm off.
