Im just about to order but just need to know a few things,

Im going to get the Home Premium Retail 32/64bit. But does that come with 2 different disks and cdkeys? what im wanting to do is go halfers with my dad and he is going to use 32bit for his pc and im going to use 64bit for mine.

Is this possible?

One computer at a time only i'm afraid, having the choice of 32 or 64 is only a perk, it doesn't mean one of each!

Unless you plan on upgrading often, a copy of Vista OEM for you each still comes out cheaper than one copy of retail anyway.

yeh but then it comes down to what version do i want, which i still dont have a clue what to go for. wouldnt want to go 64bit then notice a lot of the programs i use dont work or all hardware i have dosent have drivers etc. But i dont even know if that is a problem, maybe 64bit is fine. Its just an image in my head of it lol.

OEM would be good for my dad as he never upgrades his pc, but i change my hardware all the time.

Okay, let's put this straight.

For WHQL Certification, there must be x86 AND x64 drivers submitted. That means that unless both pass testing, NEITHER will be installable.

So both x86 and x64 will have the SAME driver maturity.

Also, Conroes are NOT Itaniums. They can execute x86 code with NO PERFORMANCE PENALTY whatsoever. This is what the WOW64 application does, it handles control of the CPU when it comes to executing 32 bit code.

In reality, they should have called x64 *x86 with x64 capability there if need be* because that is what it is.

The only reason not to go x64 is if your processor doesn't support it. Otherwise you're just setting yourself up for more expense when you upgrade to 4GB RAM.

This is what I put in another thread. I'm going 64 bit personally, and i'm a gamer. I fully expect it to work at least as well as the 32 bit version, if not better.

Just downloaded that vista advisery program to test my machine aswell. Says that Nortons Firewll 6.0.0 and Norton Antivirus 2003 wont work with vista :(

Hope vista is secure enough to run without any firewalls etc for awhile lol :D

That's good, you should go with an anti-virus system that doesn't grind your computer to a halt ;)

(Nb. I've never actually used norton, I'm only going on little things I've read.)

another thing, i know a lot of programs might not work for vista, but i have a lot of programs/files/etc on my spare harddrive. When i load up vista ill still be able to import things from my spare HD? or will a lot of it be corrupt?

you should be able to read files from your old drive fine. You can copy over data files etc. for programs if you need them, but you will need to reinstall the programs themselves on vista (mostly)

since this is a vista thread and i dont want to make another.. :P what do you do about raid drivers @ windows install for vista? because the only ones i got is windows xp.

Try the manufacturer website for updated drivers?
