Another Watch Thread - help!

Do you have the one with the metal bracelet or the orange strap? Do you have any pictures of it on your wrist please?

*Bump* Any pics please?

Also Rotty - I've noticed that the one with the metal bracelet is slightly smaller than the one with the strap - if I wanted the one with the larger face (i.e. the orange leather strap) should I buy this and then get the bracelet after? Will there be incompatiblity because of the size of the different faces?

Thanks

afaik you can swap bracelets and straps

if this is something you are looking at then buy one on bracelet as an new strap will be hugely cheaper than buying a bracelet

there are 2 sizes 42mm and 45.5mm these both come with a choice of strap or bracelet

oh and heres my 45.5 on bracelet

The above sellers won't accept any less! :(

Maybe I'll just buy new... if I can get a decent price.. don't mind buying online either, where has the best price?

Those Planet Oceans are nice, I'd not looked at them before. I was swaying towards an Aqua Terra because I'm not sure the bezel of the normal Seamaster is right for me, but the PO is more subtle.

EDIT: the normal size only comes with an orange bezel?

I've seen the 42mm with black bezel, suppose it may have been discontinued but I would doubt it

they were good prices to start with

if buying new just haggle with the dealers you will get as good a price as the web sellers and a proper warranty, I got 21% off mine and that was sending the missus to get me one and she is no expert haggler

Rotty, when you say dealers, do you mean anyone in particular?

I mean can I expect to be given the middle finger if I try and haggle in the 3-4 watch stores there must be in the Leicester shopping centres in town?

independent ones ( single shops where the owner prob works there too ) not chains such as Ernest Jones or Goldsmiths ( Goldsmiths will usually shift a bit but not loads )

Discounts are a little lower than when I bought mine but 15% will be a doddle and up to 20% possible

Be aware that if you are not prepared to buy there and then most will not get involved in price discussion ( and not on phone either )

Rotty,

I went into Goldsmiths and they had the 45m version for 2K (with bracelet).

They said 10% at a push and I would have bought it (good thing I didn't since you said avoid them :p) but another thought entered my mind which I thought I'd clear with you first !

What do you do with insurance re these kind of watches? Is it worth me insuring it? Do you insure yours? I mean I guess the metal part will inevitably get scratched but the crystal face shouldn't I guess, and I'll never take it off apart from at home etc. and I doubt I'll get mugged (or hope :p).

So yeah, should I be thinking about insurance/extra warranty or anything before making such a purchase? - did you?

THanks

nothing wrong with Goldsmiths but you can do better than 10%

best way to insure is on your house contents insurance, most ahve a limit of about £1500 for unspecified valuables so you may need to add it as a single ite, prob add anout 30 quid a year to your policy

I am insured through Hiscox who allow an overall valuables limit ( think I have £20k ) but don't put a limit on individual items, they are a premium level insurer though and prices are a bit higher than most others

I use this as I tend to change watches often and it saves me messing about

I never bother with extended warranties, the PO has 3yr iirc anyway
