For some time now I have been looking at getting a good quality watch. I've been looking through websites on watches for hours and looking at every watch thread on these forums too. Now being only 18 it will take me a bit of time to save up for one, so I want to make the right choice. This will probably be a watch for life too. I wear my current one 24/7 so it would definatley get a lot of use.
So far I have been looking at two watches, both Omegas. The first being the Seamaster 300 M Diver Chronometer.

It is a very nice watch, but everyone seems to have one. Also, I am still not sure whether I like the strap on it or not. That and it isn't really that exclusive. It is a top quality watch for a good price though. The other one I have been looking at is this one:

I'm not usually a fan of the Speedmaster design, or any watches wit the dials in, but this watch really is quite different, and not horiffically expensive from what i've seen. The only thing i'm not sure about is the tachymetre, looks too busy. The strap is pretty much perfect though.
I just posted here to see what peoples thoughts were on these two watches and if anyone has any other reccomendations for a watch. I'm looking for a classic looking style, no modern junk, with a fair amount of weight to it. I hate light watches. Budget is around £1500, although it may take a while for me to save that up :p. Anything like Quartz or chronometer would also be nice. Chosen watch has to be automatic too. I did take a good look at some of the Rolex range too, such as the suubmariner and GMT Master II. However, they do look nice but they are fairly plain and have nothing different or more individual to them. Breitlings are far too busy.
Another question is, buying the watch. Would a good option be finding the watch I want in a jewellers over here then ordering from the USA? Would that work out cheaper? Also, are Omega planning to bring out a new/update their range any time soon?
Also, I was looking at the Vostok Europe watches and fell in love with the K-3 Submariner range, although it would not be the watch I want, possibly something to fill the gap until I get the one a truly want. Basically, does anyone have any experience with them or know where to buy them? I loved the look of this one:

Find me a UK dealer that sells that watch and i'll love you forever. :D

The first Omega is nice, i have one albeit in titanium finish...was a special edition one but is kind of busy ie dials in the middle of the watch. But saying that i do love my Breitling watches, i now have 3 and they are all titanium made and are busy but then i like that sort of thing.

But seriously the top pic of the Omega is the one i would go for, superb watch and wears well. I think even Gilly has one and rates it quite highly same with Rotty, whos the resident watch pimp here:p:D

With your budget at about £1500 you should just be able to get a planet ocean.

The bond Seamaster is just too common and i dont like the hands at all, and the speedy just looks tacky with the mars moon stuff, what about a black SMP 2254.50.

I have a SMP 2255.80 and a Breitling Super Ocean

I don't like the numbers on bezel on the 2254.50. Too big. I'd like something that isn't black really. Blue and silver are a very nice combination. As for the planet ocea, im finding it difficult to tell how big the faces are from those pics. Anyone got a shot of one on a wrist? I don't like the faces too small. Seamaster face is about right. Also, is it only orange and black that the planet oceans come in?

The Vostok Europe would be a good watch to tide you over for a few years until you get something of better quality. I bought a Vostok Rocket-N1 about 6 months ago and love it. It's sturdy and simple in its design. The automatic movement is accurate however it can run slightly fast over the space of a week. For £100 I think it would be hard to find a better quality watch, they are built very solidly.

I got mine from http://www.rltwatches.com/

The one I like is on that site, but it has a red second hand, while on a US site ithe second hand is the same colour as the rest of the decoration, as in the picture. Hmm...

There are 2 model of Planet Ocean 42mm and 45mm the full size SMP are 41mm

They do a black bezel and an orange bezel either on a bracelet or strap. Have you though about second hand

Thats the same watch you're talking about ;)

Whaddya mean 'even' Gilly? :/

The more I look at the planet ocean, the more it grows on me. Still don't think the orange is great though. Too colourful.

While were on about watches.. Im going top get a new watch soon, and ive had a look about for a while. By budget is about £300 and I found a seiko that I really liked;

The Seiko Kinetic SNL001

I was pretty much settled on this watch. Ive even been to the jewlers to have a look at it in the flesh. But then due to this thread, ive had another quick search and I came across;

The Seiko Kinetic SKA201
ska201tu6.jpg

So which one do you guys/ladies prefer? (I think im leaning towards the SKA201 now) Does anyone have one of these or a similar one? Are there any others that are similar that I ought to look at?

re Updates then yes the Seamaster has a big one imminent with the introduction of the Co-axial movement

£1500 would probably get a Planet Ocean, another suggestion would be a Panerai 104 though this would stretch your budget a bit more

Re buying from the USA, this is not normally that good a deal if you get stung for import taxes

Do not buy a quartz watch if you are looking at quality timepieces, even if you like it at the time you will soon wish you had bought an automatic

Re the Speedmaster, one thing to remember is that they are not waterproof enough for swimming ( if that matters to you )

I really don't like either. Have you seen them both on a wrist? I'm not a fan of the watch faces that aren't clearly defined and look like a continuation of the strap. They look OK in pics but not on a wrist IMO.

Of the two I'd have to say I prefer the bottom one. Nice and clean.

Yeah, ive tried the first one on, and it looks good IMO. I actually prefer watches that are a continuation of the strap.

Finally got my Vostok K3. Very very good looking watch. Good chunkiness and the perfect weight. Can't wear it until Christmas though, being a Christmas present and all. Just got it out to have some links removed.
