Very sorry for yet another question. My original idea was to get a Thermochill PA 120.2, but I might not have enough money for one, so can someone tell me what the next rad down would be in terms or performance?

Highest performance
1. Thermochill PA 120.2
2.
3.
4.
5.
Lowest Performance

Could some fill in the gaps on the above "chart", could someone add Thermochill HE and Flow 120.2 rads in there with other alternatives please.

Many Thanks, Ben

Sorry, I can't be bothered to look for your other posts to see what else you're putting in the loop, what you're cooling and what fans you intend to use.

It is impossible to rate radiators without taking them as components in a holistic system.

What about a PA160? Not a .2 I know but it was a good performer for me.

Where abouts in Rotherham are you from, btw?

To be honest, you'd be hard-pressed to get an outright bad radiator in this day and age. Pretty much because they're all Black Ice Stealth GTs or Extremes which aren't bad radiators at all.

Watercooling has been made much easier in the past two years by massive improvements in all the components concerned. As such, I'm willling to bet that you will not notice any difference between any radiator that is not a Thermochill.

That makes sense, because the heat given off by an AMD chip is a different type of heat given off by any other component so a high proformance rad would be crap against AMD heat...

Thanks for the rolleyes. You clearly are an expert.

If the OP intends to use 5v low-pressure fans, the a PA series will be clearly best. If he intends to use 12v Deltas then a thicker rad will be better. In a high-pressure low-flow system then high air-flow through the rad will be unnecessary. With a multi-block small-bore system resulting in high resistance and low-flow, a low restriction radiator will be a boon where a restrictive one would make matters worse. There is little point putting a PA160.1 in the list if the poster is build an HTPC while a 120.4 rad might be recommended if the OP is using a Yeong Yang cube.

Happy now?

Mike, do you get fed up with these questions or are you baiting people so you can shoot them down? Don't be so hard on people, I mean, a lot of people miss things from my long sticky. So go easy on them. We all have to start somewhere. :)

I made no mention of what chip was involved. I was talking about the water-cooling loop and I don't appreciate it when someone uses sarcasm and a roll-eyes when they clearly don't understand the basics.

I don't respond in every thread that asks the same old "what should I buy" but at least this thread asked a better question albeit one which needed to be qualified. If the OP comes back with a qualified question specifying primarily what fans are to be used, I'll be happy to go google for a reasonable review of radiators. Of course, the OP could do that to...

I dunno where I would fit a 160, going for a dual 120 i think.

Ill have a read of the sticky, I always seem to miss them, they should be easier to spot :)

Think im getting a Alphacool Nexxos Extreme II from a guy off MM brand new, so hopefully it will be OK ;)

If folk didn't ask questions it would be a dull forum. A FAQ sticky would be helpfull though.

1. How do I apply AS5?
etc etc.

It does get a little tiresome with folk asking the same q's over and over.

Ben - the extreme range need high cfm fans to get the most cooling.

Ill be using it with Quiet fans, (Going for silence :)) so ill use this rad for the time being and maybe upgrade to a PA 120.2 in the future, not ideal I know, but im a bit low on funds at the mo :(

Definitely worth getting the PA series if your budget raches to it. The Swiftech MCR220 is half the price of the PA120.2 representing extremely good value and performs very well with low-power fans. The Black Ice GT Stealth range are getting good feedback and are also cheaper than the PA series.

Many thanks for your Help, I really appreciate it ;) :) Im going to be getting an Alphacool has i've already struck a deal with someone in the MM, also for the same price as a PA 120.2 i could get this rad and a 2nd hand CPU block, finishing my loop off :D

Once again many thanks for your help, and sorry for all the noobie question.

Don't be sorry dude. We all have to start somewhere. What do you have planned for your PC?

  • DDC 18W Pump with OCLabs top
  • Swiftech Microres
  • Dangerden Maze 4 GPU block
  • Alphacool Nexxos extreme II rad
  • Not got CPU block yet looking for a decent 2nd hand one (D-tek fusion or similar :))

Anything ive missed?

Ben

Sorry got the Tubing, its 7/16" so I was under the impression it didn't need clips, Is this right?, Im going to use Feser One, which ive yet got to order, is this ok aswell?
