Always use clips.
In the grand scheme of things they don't cost much, and if something goes wrong with your cooling the loop could overheat, warming the tubing allowing to become supple and come off without clips (pretty unlikely, but I am the sort of person that double clips his hoses, with second clip 180o different.)
