Well I am currently waiting for my upgrade from bulldog to 16mb and as of such need a new router. I currently use an Origio 8100 unit which has served me well for the last 2 years and considering it was fairly cheep back then.

Now I already have a Linksys ADSL2MUE adsl2+ modem and so need a router to complement it. I was think of going down the WRT54G/GS route but after reading the tomshardware review on it I'm not to sure. Now I'm considering the DLINK DGL-4300 as that seemed to score quite favourably and seems to be able to cope with the demands that I will be putting on it such as multiple connections via BT,P2P and game servers including xbox live.

Now I'm not really bothered with the wireless at the moment but I would like it for future proofing.

Now these are just two units that seem to appeal to me so what would you guys recommend?

Er, what exactly was the problem with the WRTs (barring the new version being the lobotomised VXWorks version)?

Got a v1 here that's not given me any hassle. If you want to continue to run the third party firmware that's floating around, buy a WRT54GL.

Well I have decided to buy the WRT54GS and turns out it is version 5.1. I am amazed at all the features this has compared to my old router and after a few teething problems with an old network cable I have set it up with my ADSL2MUE modem and they seem to be happily working together. Now all I have to wait for is Bulldog to sort out my upgrade.

Oh and on a side note managed to pick the router up for less than £40 brand new so I think I have made a wise investment there.
