Another which CPU thread

Hi all,

Been out of the game a while and looking to upgrade my golf sim rig

I currently have a 12400F and 3080 gfx card. The PC is used for Golf Sim Software at 4k on the projector with a duplicated screen and another monitor running 1080 which is running discord with cameras for video playback and streaming and OBS for screen recording.

I have noticed the CPU is struggling a little and looking to upgrade to either a newer intel or AM5. Budget of £350ish for the CPU, Thoughts on the AMD 7900X or 14700K or is there something better to be looking at in the price range?

I've got a 14700k on my plex server (yes, thats absurd) and its excellent.

14700K is a decent all-around CPU which will avoid a platform upgrade. Though, keep in mind the (potential for) power usage is much higher than your 12400F, so the motherboard and cooler will need to be better than average.

I have a Rog Strix 850 PSU and aio cpu cooler which should be more than capable

I would invest into AMD AM5, plenty of upgrade potential. I was always Intel but dipped my toe with a 5900X and never looked back.
