I can get the b7 for £1409

or

the Sony XE93 for £1319

TV will be used for mainly for Sky, movies streamed from a NAS, netflix and gaming.

Thoughts?

I had the XE9005, so model down from the the XE93, and it was good, but due to the OS on the TV going a bit haywire, I swapped to the C7. The C7 in my view is something else picture wise, the depth and detail of the screen is stunning and it looks great with even the freeview TV images. HDR programs, such as Altered Carbon, look brilliant with night scenes with the neon signs etc highlighted while still having the depth of image in the dark streets below. With the cost being so close I'd go OLED personally, but thats my choice.

Got to say I'm really worried about burn-in issues on OLED's. Have nearly pulled the trigger on a 65 B7 a few times but the avforums has lots of posts, with photographic evidence, of screen burn caused by logos and news feeds like Sky Sports. It doesn't seem like it's one or two unlucky people either, plus apparently the sun can't shine on them either or the screen fades. The 65" B8 will be about £3.5k which is a lot of money for something you have to babysit for years. I reeeally want a new TV too.

I've been playing games on it an not noticed any burn in yet, or retention that lasts more than a couple of seconds top...I am very very impressed with the Horizon 3 on the Xbox One X, its so so pretty.

( seems that return was an E6/2016 panel with older pixel structure (did they have screen shift/ pixel refresher?) and structure updated again 2017 and 2018,
but rtings have not done burn in tests for 2018 sets yet )

with such a small difference between b7 & xe93 tthink I would go oled.
I suppose there is never an ideal time to buy, but oled should drop more (recent figures on car sales) and lg with more factory capacity, improved yield
could save £500 and get a Samsung Q6f, only realised recently these have same panel as lauded KS700 predecessor.

Also read the upscaling is really good on the xe93 and also read that watching Sky doesn’t look as good on the LG.

One thing I do like about the Sony is the android tv aspect. I do like that I can install a vpn app on it to stream from US Netflix.

Can you cast YouTube from your phone to the LG? I know you can do that on the Sony (currently doing that now with my Sony tv)?

Upscaling and running ATV are a couple of the main reasons I'm looking at the Sony sets.
I recently sent back a Nvidia Shield because the upscaling was much worse than my Samsung tv (among other things).

I've read that the processor Sony use to run the OS (not the extreme x1 image processor) is quite old and slow though?
I've not had a chance to go look at them in person yet, has anyone got any comments on the interface speed, changing channels etc. please?

I had the exact same choice, I took the XE93.
The biggest factor for me is that I find ANY possibility of screen burn unacceptable. Sure it will not happen to everyone and I think I'm safe in saying it will not happen to most owners, however having to babysit a £1500 purchase is just not right. There is the possibility there and with a manufacturer unwilling to provide any kind of back-up should this occur, I believe that OLED simply isn't ready for mass consumption yet.
So, image quality will not be as good on the XE93. Saying that I've been nothing but amazed with the TV. Everything I've thrown at it looks amazing. Excellent HDR performance, Netflix and the PS4 Pro look stunning with the right inputs.
The XE93 suffers at the bottom end, it's an LCD so the blacks on the OLED will look darker. However at the other end, the LCD looks brighter. The backlight is nice and bright on the XE93 and in my opinion at the bright end, the Sony looks better.

Only you can decide if the possibility of screen burn is acceptable to you - are you risk adverse? When I spend £1500 on a TV I'll be keeping it for 5-6 years, having screen burn after 2-3 years would not be acceptable.
I decided that this would be my final swansong to LCD. I would get a TV that looks stunning, has amazing HDR performance and no chance of burn in. Then, in 5-6 years time I'll look at either a fully mature OLED technology or MicroLED.

Oled everytime after owning one, no burn in here and all the stories I've seen of burn in so far are people who watch Sky sports new for 8+ hours a day which is seems a crazy long time to me.

You'll probably find burn in on a ex retail unit that has had it's brightness stuck at 100% and ran all day every day, the newer firmware on the 2017 model dims the oled brightness down automatically depending which colour mode your on.

I think for pc gamers, LCD is king.
I use my TV to mod games, photo edit, browse the net AND play games. Its just ASKING for burn in/IR. sad :(

I'd get a nice LCD/LED, preferably FALD set.

I'd get an OLED if I was a console gamer but the fact my TV is basically a monitor as a PC gamer makes the risk too high for me. I've left my TV on all day with youtube playing ffs lol!

I just picked up a 55" LG OLEDB7V and its absolutely fantastic I couldn't recommend it more, I previously had a Panasonic TX-P50GT50 Plasma which I gamed on and never had an issue with burn in and I have no concerns whatsoever about it with the OLED either its always overblown.

My problem is I really want to get a PS4 Pro and make the most of it, sold my PS4 a year ago after buying the switch but would love to play HZD in 4K and never did get around to playing Uncharted 4.

Ah buying a tv these days are so hard...

So I managed to find the Sony even cheaper at £1,279, just checking if I can get it priced matched at usual places. Makes it very tempting now.

IT's not really that hard.

If money is your primary concern get the XE93.

If you want the best TV and can afford the £1409 buy the LG B7.

only way I would be tempted to buy Sony is if you where getting a bigger screen size for the same money.

OLED is at its peak now don’t think it will get much better.

Also didn’t the LG panel makers increase the size of the red pixels like they did with blue on the on 2017 panels to reduce the chances of pixels degrading?

I have the C6 (2016)and pretty much abuse it with gaming and love the TV.

Hoping to upgrade to 65”OLED or maybe a 75” LED after the summer but am not sure I can live without them ink blacks. :(
