Yay! Just bought my first car. I passed my test a year ago and have been a named driver since then but I've actually splashed out and got meself a banger.

She's a 1997 Rover 216si in kingfisher blue (although to everyone except rover, it's green). Rest assured the exhaust tip will be coming off, when i figure out how. A shade uner 64k on the clock, a bargain at £500 :D

Not bad at all for a first car, I'd love something like that for myself when I do get my license... not sure about that colour though :p

Now just hope it's reliable :)

Very nice, tho I am a little biased :P still going around in my 214Si :) Just make sure you look out for those tell tale signs of HGF hehe. My car is just about to hit 50k and It's had 14k of hard miles under its belt now and its done me great. Blew up one clutch and a new exhaust but that's all. Tho either gearbox oil leak or gearbox mount is on its way out atm. The handling makes me laugh every time i go round a corner.

I like the ZR wheels tho does look like bit weird so high up :D A very cheap mod that looks good is d-tangoing the front lights. It's free (bar a new set of bulbs) and looks good. Ignore the lack of grille :P

that looks very cute as a first car...especially for £500. My first car cost nearly the same, and it was a Yugo! (yung-uns may have to google, ahem)

Thinking about it, my first years insurance cost more than the car - a point i made when i went to pay for it, got some very stuttery excuse of an answer of why it was justified.

I should never have been made to insure a Yugo...it didnt a-go-go much !
 
I have myself a Rover 214Si. Brilliant little car, hasnt failed me once. Had it for a year now and has never shown any sign of dying on me. Just the odd flat type and thats it.

I definately think getting something for £500 is the way to go for a first car, get used to driving and in a few years time when you can afford it and are ready, spend more and get something you'll really appreciate.

And tbh the colour doesn't really come into it when your spending £500, reliability is your number one concern, my first car was a yellow Metro :)
