Hi All,

With an overwhelming amount of talent on this forum, my little foray into case painting will no doubt gain little in the way of admiration. However I like it so far and am doing it all myself, no outside help.

Plan is to paint the front bezel, cut a new window for the side but no mount it in the usual way, but the manufactures style. Custom paint both side panels to match the front. Fill the indents in the top and lower the fan grill. I have always hated the top of the 1200 so I am putting it right, to my eye at least. Front panel will dissappear. I have no need for an esata port, nor USB so they'll be gone as well. The front three fan assemblies have been moved up one slot, leaving a single slot fro the new power panel. Nothing more than a pair of black red ring tactile anti vandal buttons..

Anyway I started today with the front bezel.

Primed with plastic primer then painted Honda Red, then flatted. 3mm line tape was used freehand to make a sort of power/data bus from one side panel through the front to the other. After that was done the whole lot was painted Satin black, then flatted, the satin laquer four times. JOb done and I like it a lot. Am trying to be original but that is difficult these days.

My Asus Xonar Xense STX died today :( and with work tomorrow, I have stripped the top of the case ready for filling. More as it's completed. AM going to strive for a 10 day completion. Fat chance, but I am going to try.

:D

The finish matches exactly with the motled finish of the side panels. Both the top and sides will have similar custom paint. All the fans are being changed to Red Xilence with no leds. I am not a fan of illuminated fans. Here's one final shot of the front bezel.

My side panel is going to look like this.

OK more as it happens. Thanks for looking.

I was inspired, EniGmA1981, by the circuit diagram for a TV I have been attempting to repair. Suddenly I HAD to have it on my case. Thanks

Ok, here is a small update. My workshop is covered in filler dust now dispite extraction both in the wall and on the tool itself.

After cleaning the top panel, and roughing up the plastic I have filled in all the sections of the moulding. I was never a fan of it so I am looking forward to the smooth new look. The red lines from the front will continue up the top as well. The fan grill is going to be lowered, possibly by trimming the grill or maybe by lowering the fan aswell, not sure yet.

Anyway the images speak for themselves. I will finish it off on Saturday and get it primed using high build.

Thanks

Great filler. Very fast cure, easy sand and only £18 + vat for a 7Kg tin with 3 75ml hardners. Pro bodyshop outlet.

Oh the switches for the new lower front panel have just come. Next door had them. They are 16mm anti vandal. Black anodised with an illuminated red ring. The power switch ring will be lit all the time and the reset ring will the HDD led.

Today I have finished off the filling of the top panel. A second and third skim of filler has been applied and is currently curing. It's Friday, so I am outta here, so no more tonight. Tomorrow, the top will be high-build-primered and then painted red. Tomorrow night I can start with the lining tape again. Photos tomorrow. Cheers

OK the top panel has now been sanded and is in high build. Got to fix a record player for a client before I get a chance for photos. Will be back at it, so to sepak within the hour. The top will be red by 1600 GMT, will post images then.

Cheers

One heavy coat of filler primer. Having managed to put a minor thumb mark on the filler I have found out it takes a while to set up :( Anyway it has to be sanded then sprayed again anyway. So much for having it red today. Oh well, it's got to be done. The original outline of the raised sections can be seen in the images but I cannot feel them with my hand. After some more sanding and another coat of filler primer, I hope they'll been gone. Shouldn't matter too much though as the red lines will cover a bit of the raised areas.

Am currently deciding whther to include Mic and Headphone sockets on the new front panel. I may never use them but it may be handy.

Cheers
