Why does a case that costs £29.99 in 2008 now cost £49.99 in 2011? Are they trying to sell other units such as the antec 100 by raising the price or did they realise it was such a popular case and raise the price?

Exchange rates were $2 to the £ in march 2008 but they were lower later in the year which is when I saw the price for £29.99 I think.

Pretty much the dollar rate

£29.99 @ 2:1 = $60

£49.99 @ 1.6:1 = $79

The cost of metal has also shot the through the roof and shipping costs for large items has gone up due to fuel price increases too.

Maybe Antec have cashed in a little more too.

Don't forget the Vat decrease in about 09, then increase this year, that's a couple of pounds in variation (it would have added £1.25ish when it went up).

Not to mention inflation etc, and the cost increases in things like electricity.

IIRC copper cabling has more or less doubled in price as an example.

Difference being its a phenomenal case for £30 whereas theres better stuff out there for slightly more than £50.

it is not only cases.
I paid £140 for a q6995 and some sites sell it for £240+
i Paid £90 for Tritton AX 360 headphones. An online store named after a large jungle sells them now for £300.
Everything is going up. Supply and demand. Often when a good product is stopped being produced, everyone wants one and resellers wack up the prices.

Talking of the biggest scam,
Petrol prices.
85% of the price is tax and then when vat went up the tax on that went up plus the oil cartels wanted to cash in on the act too.

Makes the case pale in comparison

ive got a 902 and a 300. the 300 just looks so damn cool. not flashy, just damn good. fitted my crossfire 4870's and now it fits my 6950. its cool and did I mention it looks good? its still worth every penny, even if it cost 70

Not really is it.

its a £35 case really, its looks like a £35 case and its got the features and stock cooling of a £35 case.

I agree with stulid. It was great at £30, but if you have £50 to spend on a case, you will have £80, and £80 is super competitive, with cases that are a whole lot better than the 300 readily available.

There are better cases in the world but at £30 i doubt you could find a better one. Mines has done me proud. It's a little bit cramped now and the cable management options are lacking but to be honest at it's original price it was and still is a decent little case.
