I’ve put my new cables piled in with old cables whilst sorting my room by accident.

Anyone able to send a photo of the power cable with the socket end showing they got with their Antec HCG 3.1 1200w pro I can’t find it online.

Thanks

Glad you managed to find it, OP. In general, how is the PSU so far? Is quiet, cables feel high quality, etc? Does the box say '12v-2x6' on it at all? The Antec website just says '12VHPWR' but it is an ATX 3.1 PSU so I assume it is the latest spec of the cable.

Thanks.

Yeah the PSU is great and the cables do feel nice. As for sound it’s quiet but at the same time I’ve got a 7900xtx hellhound so can only hear the coil whine on that lol

Good to hear, thanks. Ah, the joys of coil whine. Far too common in the latest large GPUs unfortunately.
As for the box I’m not sure as I got rid of it sorry
No worries!

Yeah sounds like a gas leak but thankfully I have headphones on gaming whenever the GPU is being used a lot so don’t hear its

This is probably a good time for me to ask since I’ve already made a forum but I don’t suppose you know if it’s ok to plug my PC into an extension lead? I’ve been trying to sort my wires to go all under my desk and an extension lead for my PC would be a hell of a lot easier than in that wall.

Was looking at a Belkin 6 outlet 650 Joule surge protected strip which would have the PC (7900xtx 9800x3d), monitor & maybe a PS5.

I think the strip would be 13A 250V so would that be ok to put the PC into. Don’t want to do anything wrong a nuke it all though as I’ve been told before only put a PC into the wall socket.

I've been running my PCs (with monitor) from Belkin surge protectors since I was a wee one, so I guess you can :o

The spec of the cable is exactly the same for ATX 3.0 and 3.1, the difference is the connector on the GPU. However, some manufacturers, like Seasonic (OEM for Antec), have updated the design of their cables as part of the increment. In this case, the box says 12VHPWR, but the cable has a 12V-2x6 tag on it. The 3.1 PSU has a slightly shorter “hold up” time which improves efficiency. That is the only technical spec change apart from the connector on the GPU.

Thanks for your response. Is the difference only on the female connector on the GPU side? Surely the same changes should be made PSU connector end as well, otherwise it's only a half job done.

Just the GPU side - shorter sensing connectors in the female connector. On the PSU side it is still labelled as 12VHPWR. In reality it is mostly just a rename of the same cable.
It is half a job, der8auer posted a video in which he cut some of the 12V wires, but the GPU still senses that the connector is plugged and all is good!

I had just asssumed both ends had the newer connector (shorter sense pins, etc). Seems stupid, but hey ho. I don't think i'll be buying a 5090 after all the issues anyway. Yes, I saw Der8auer's video. Fascinating and slightly worrying...

I’ve come to the same conclusion

So far it's a very small number of burnt connectors and it seems to be from specific PSUs with older style pins in the 12VHPWR cable, like the first cables they released from the 40 series

I think there are wannabe 5090 owners out there helping fuel the fire (heh) to scare people from buying it so they have a better chance

The connector issues are only one factor for me. There are about 10 other valid reasons not to bother with the 5090 (and 50 series in general). Others can pay £2500+ for MSRP cards if they want for a small increase, but i'm fine for now. Let the 6090 rumours commence :D

Your 4090 would sell for enough that an upgrade to the 5090 FE would be no more than £300
In 2 years time, when the 6090 arrives, a 5090 will be worth substantially more than the 4090, which is why I made the jump from 4090 to 5090

I know... that's also been weighing on my mind, assuming I can nab a 5090 FE and find a safe way to sell the 4090. Ebay have changed their policies recently which has put me off, but it seems the place to go still for getting top dollar.
