Antec Nine Hundred

caeteez: Very nice job by the way. What is the exact paint you used and what type was it? How did you put it on etc, could you explain. I'm currently working on a case (first time) and I need a little advise would appreciate any tips.

Hey sorry I took a while to respond.

Thanks for the feedback all, appreciate it!

Now, to answer some of these questions...

Gibbs, I assume your talking about the black PCI slot covers? Well, they are just the originals, sprayed black. Thought they would stand out better in a different colour from the main chassis.

Mishima, I used Halfords paints, found in the car paint section. Just regular aerosols, they work well, especially if you cant afford an airbrush :( . Maybe I'll save up and get one in the future lol.
I started by braking the case down into its individual parts. Didnt take long. I then sanded down all of the parts with a mouse sander. This gave the metal a nice surface for the paint to stick to. I then sprayed the parts with a gray primer and left them to dry. This was also from Halfords, just their simple primer. After all the parts were dry I applied the colour. I used a Volkswagen Jetta red on the chassis and grills, and used the gloss black to accent the small details such as the HDD cages and PCI slot covers. All the paints I used were enamels. I bought one gray primer, 2 reds (Jetta, used for touching up Volkswagen paint) and a black. Around £6 each.
The only thing to make sure of is that you prepare the surfaces well. The sanding is essential, as is the choosing of colours that will work well together. As long as you plan well, you will be fine and enjoy the process. Its nice to see the parts slowly transform.
The other thing to remember is to dust the paint on slowly and lightly. I kept the can at least 10-15 cm from the surface, dusting from right to left smoothly to avoid runs in the paint. It can seem to take a while, but the end results are always better.
I didnt bother with a clear coat, although if you do want to, its right there in the paint section along with the colours and primers. I suppose I should have really, but I was impatient as all my parts were laying in my room waiting to go back into the case. At least in your scenario your case is not currently holding your system, so you're not in a rush.
Like I say, just plan well and you will be fine. Pick good colours and your case will look awesome.
Good Luck, I'll be following your thread throughout the summer :D .

PhillyDee, as above. Thanks for the nice comments!

Matt.

Some nice pictures there guys. It's a shame that the whole case is not fininshed in a powder coating finish , might be the next step for me but this is what I have done with mine, sprayed all the bare metal with several coats enamel metalic blue and shiny laqure, swapped the two front fan for antec tricool blue led units but put the black blades into those. Hooked up my cpu, nb and two front fans to a thermaltake harcano13. Will consider dremeling some holes into the case when I do my next mobo and gpu upgrade to tidy up the cables better.

How do you post photoS BTW? Pics added, thanks for the info.

the colour you used does make it look a lot better than the standard version
and you could have took the back plate off the gfx card and sprayed that
black as well :)

my m8s getting that case soon so i will email him your pics see what
he thinks of it

If you have the image saved on your computer you go to a hosting site like imageshack.us. There you upload the image and copy the image's new URL. When on the forums, encapsulate the image like so:

Can you not get hold of an extension?

been looking for one but no luck so far, so i may have to chop it to extend it myself which i dont want to do sadly...

just wondering what other ppl might say

google: PSU Extension Cable 24 Pin M to 20+4 Pin F AKASA Power

the cable will cost around £5.00 odd

You can get extensions for all power connectors. I extended the P4 connector to route it 'the long way round' the motherboard. However, it was cheaper to buy it from usa, as it even came sleeved, with black plugs cheaper (including postage) than anywhere in the uk (the uk ones were cheapo white platic with a cable tie to keep wires together).

Nice work guys, loving my case too but I'm sure if I decided to do anything drastic with it it'd all end in tears :p
I'm just happy that it runs nice and cool so far and is so much quieter than my old one, doesn't feel like I'm sharing my room with a helicopter these days.
