antec p150

I agree. You can't polish a turd I guess. I think the P180 is a good stock case for putting already quiet components into to improve a quiet pc setup. The plastic/alum panels, heavy build of the case to min. vibration, lack of open vents around the side and front, and ability to run the fans quietly along with the hard drive isolation can give very impressive results. Results that are achievable on other cases with some modding or buying extra components. But there are a fair few drawbacks with this case for sure. Right now I am using a PC7 as recommended on these forums (by yourself actually) and about the only thing that is not quiet about it is the hard drives. Easily fixable I guess. I would have gone for the Eclipse (again had one before) except I hate the front panel.

Yeh PC7 is good for a quiet case, silent takes some effort but is possible. The case can go in any direction once you know what you want.

P180 if you have a very quiet PC no doubt it may make it that little better, but I have never personally noticed a difference in noise with a stock rig (GPU and CPU stock/retail fans) in a P180 v v1000+, also compared one to a £20 OcUK Estar Benz case.

Noisey components in a case, are noisey regardless. At the low end of noise the P180 may elimate fan hum a little better, but it is possible to through other means so buying the case based on it being low noise to me is a little waste, unless you like it for a case in its own right.

The low noise branding on all cases really is a marketing ploy to get the uninformed to stick a noisey rig in them and expect miracles.

The fact the p180 has those thick panels, and the hdd mounting really made a difference for me. It muffled an already quiet system. Almost silent. And any case with holes around the front is going to leave noise out. Of course I am very fussy about noise to the point of being anal. I got rid of my keyboard over the noise the keys made. Got rid of the CRT over slight high pitched buzzing most people could not hear. Using a PC7 now for my 2nd system, with a Nexus fan at 5v, HDD mounted in silentmax enclosure, passively cooled Turion, and an Antec Phantom. Will probably have to get the coils looked at on this psu as there is some electrical noise I am not happy with.

Well, my silence is not as picky as that, as I never notice noises like that, only repetative drones get to me.

So now we have Noisey, Quiet, Silent and Flanno. :p

I'm _still_ thinking about cases. Am I right in thinking a P180 would be a great improvement over a Chieftec Dragon in terms of noise? (I've recently had an increase in noise due to the fan of my 7800GS, and there is no aftermarket fan for it :( )

It would not really make much difference, as your graphics card is loud in your PC, it will be loud in another.

You need to lower the volume in your current case, admittedly the Dragons are not the quietest cases and a pain to make silent, but they can be made low noise reasonably easy.

I am sure a 7800gs aftermarket cooler would come out soon, or you could go about modding one.
