hey all I have been thinking about adding some fans to my p183 case, 2 on the side and another on the top.
Reason for this is because I'm going to order some new kit to put in the case and want to keep it cool.
Or would you recommend not doing the mod and go for some other cooling?

If yes to the mod how would you go about doing it?

Asus P6X58D-E Intel X58 MOBO
EVGA GeForce GTX 580
Intel Core i7 950 3.06GHz (Bloomfield)
Corsair Hydro H70 High-Performance CPU WaterCooler

All ideas welcome thanks!

It just seems wrong to hack fan holes in the sound dampening sides of the P183 only to mess up internal airflow direction. Why not utilise the front fan slot, remove grille and perhaps a 5 1/4" bay mounted fan or route your H50 to the front. Cutting a blow hole up top should be simple enough as that isn't sound dampened.

The P183's side panels are a plastic/aluminium laminate as you probably know, and cutting holes in them is unlikely to end well. Apart from that, it's a horrific idea in principle, it makes me weep just thinking about it.

The P183 fixed most of the P182's airflow problems (which were mainly related to intake flow rather than exhaust) - if I were you I'd see how your temps stand up without any mods before assaulting it with your chainsaw.

would never of thought to move the h70 to the front great idea

i don't really want to start cutting holes in the case its a great case

Are you having problems with temperatures?

The P183 isn't the best for cooling, but it's certainly good enough for almost anything if you have a half decent CPU cooler. Just don't bother, it'd be fine.

nope non at all i wanted to basically know if putting the components in below will be ok temp wise etc.

would change the fans to Sharkoon Silent Eagle 2000 120mm

Yeah, well then there's no need for any extra cooling, but new fans might be more pleasant as the Antec Tri-Cools tend to be quite loud at 12V. Sharkoon Silent Eagles aren't bad, there are better, but you might just like the look of them. I'd only get the 2000 if you have a fan controller.

Does anyone run those Tri-cools on anything but Low? I find them noisy enough on low and can't bear them on Medium amd High is just ridiculous for a supposedly quiet case.

It might be tricky to mount the H70 in the drive bays though and I'm not sure how the hot air from two 2,000 rpm fans would disperse once it enters the front door cavity.

I'd probably have it at the rear and use the top fan to remove heat from the main compartment. Maybe invest in a decent Apache fan or something for that slot and get rid of the stupid metal fan shape cutout.
