Hey. I've recently got the Orange Box. And i was on a friends machine and he's using a 640MB 8800GTS.

I have an 8800GTX 768MB.

But in the options under half life2. I have only the option of 2x, 4x and 6x MSAA.

For starters FSAA isn't even an option.
FSAA means full screen antialiasing right? I'm unsure what MSAA means... which is better?
My friends machine has both options, including an 8x and maybe a higher one, can't remember.

Anyone able to help ? :)

I got the same thing on my 8800GT, 8800GTX and all other cards going back to my 6600GT on Half-Life 2/CS:S.

I think Episode 1 & Episode 2 will give you the option of 16xCSAA and so on but for HL2 & CS:S 6x is the highest, you can force the AA on nVidia control panel though.

Not here, I can go all the way to 16x CSAA (and Q CSAA) in both HL2 and CSS with the in-game options. No need to force through drivers.

MSAA is multi-sample antialiasing, or old school normal antialiasing.
CSAA is nvidia's own antialiasing technology (coverage sampling) which is much better performance and less memory usage than MSAA

the original half life 2 does not support CSAA.

all the other orange box games will have it.

Isn't CSAA the AA that blurs the screen though? Like the wide tent AA for the ATi cards? Or am I thinking of something like QXAA?

I had accidentally enabled wide tent AA prior to playing Jericho, it made the game look terrible, it looked like it was 1024x768 stretched across 1920x1200. I couldn't work out what was going on for ages until I checked the CCC :p ANYWAY... :D

Just had a look, and yes, HL2 only goes to 6 x MSAA. However, CSS does go all the way up as I thought (was at work when posted:o):D
