What is the best anti-virus that i can get for free?

Probably need to get something on this computer had it since Christmas with nothing to clean it :p

I use Avast and have done for quite a few years down, the Home Edition is free for personal use. There may be other better ones out there but it is free and seems pretty effective to me since nothing has been found on the odd occasions I've tried running another online scanner to check it over.

I run AVG for antivirus and Zonealarm for firewall and adware for spyware. do me fine. never liked avast! popped up with all sorts.

The majority of virus systems we get in at work has AVG on it, so I would avoid it. I would personally suggest NOD32 even if it does cost a few quid.

Thank you all. Just finished installing Avast, and will give AVG a go after that to see if it picks up anything Avast misses.

:)

I use NOD32, can't fault it, avast is ok for a free one.

Not had any since christmas? pretty pointless installing it now then, who knows what's infected.

don't use avg, don't use zonealarm

they both report falsely, and cause more problems than they prevent

use windows firewall and avast! av
