Ants - unbelieveable findings...*must see*

Imagine taking all of the best evolutionary traits from all the species in the world and putting them together, how amazing would that be!

But just wow at the ants!

We often underestimate species on this planet, theirs at lests 20 species that use tools, including apes, birds and Dolphins and they teach these skills to their young, given time - many thousands of years what else will they be capable of?. If they survive Humans.

but only a few species use air-conditioning, humans ants and termites.

Air con > than a stick or sponge.

Amazing little creatures, I remember trying to keep colonys when I was younger. You can actually buy them on the internet Here

Looks like there is big money in "ants"... I would love an ant farm, a big one with dirt and stuff and would be able to see them work and build etc... would be like leaving a computer AI controlled version of Settlers :D

To sort of add to the thread is the saying that "nature knows best". I can't name any off the top of my head but I remember an engineer syaing in the past that when stuck on complex problems - they'd look at how nature achieves feats and then try to copy them.

Its called bio-engineering/bio-inspiration/bio-mimetics.

I am doing a PhD in Bio-inspired robotics. Indeed my current work focuses on modeling ant pheromone behaviors for swarm exploration.

Immense little creatures, that's what happens when you give something just enough brain to function, too thick to worry about what the other 80% of it's brain is doing and just wants to get on with the task in hand.

Isnt that the definition of a professional footballer :D

That was amazing! And to the people saying "they killed all the ants in the colony" maybe it was an abandoned colony?

guess you didn't see all those ants running round then :p

I think it's great how lots of different ants farm all sorts of different things.

some even shepherd (?) aphids
