I drive a 3.5t van and want to do my cat c test. I can do my job , but doing my job with ADHD is stressful .

The company I'm with at the minute doesn't drug test, but i don't want to bring it up until i get a prescription and have passed my cat c test which case I will move onto another company. I'm wondering wether it would be an issue.

Anyone here with ADHD , did meds help and where you legally aloud to drive commercial vehicles with medication in your system

Not sure if you need a medical for 7.5 light trucks, but a chat with your Doc would probably be best.

If you're OK to drive I'd go for the 32 tonne test.

Yes you need a medical for 7.5t and over. The only person that can answer your questions re your condition is your own GP I'm afraid.

A lot of the medication probably has a warning about operating machinery and driving, etc. though in most cases there is an alternative available that won't but might not be as pleasant/effective.

I'm not familiar with the medical restrictions and have no knowledge of ADHD so certainly best to check with your doctor, and the DVLA may also be the best people to contact as my doctor wasn't overly familiar with my driving restrictions. I have epilepsy and had to surrender my licence until I was seizure free for 1 year. If I change my medication I would have to surrender it for 6 months to ensure that it is working. It maybe that you have to re-apply every 3 or 5 years with a medical report, mine is every 5 years.

One thing to bear in mind and I'm in no way suggesting you don't inform the DVLA, is that the DVLA is absolutely useless with re-issuing licences, having gone over a year without driving I re-applied 6 weeks in advance which is the earliest you can re-apply, and it took them a further 2 weeks after I was fit to drive to send me the licence, and the help line wouldn't give out any information about what was happening, they just said that it was still being reviewed, despite me phoning them daily to check for updates. When the licence was finally delivered in the post it was dated from the date I could have been driving, 2 weeks before delivery - yet they were to incompetent to give me that information over the phone (I'd verified my identity, name, DOB, postcode, etc.)

If you find driving a 3.5t van stressful then the last thing I’d do is move up to HGV driving!

If you want a definitive answer re your ADHD then speak with your GP or the DVLA medical section.

And adult with ADHD that actually effects you? wow rare.

How does it make your job hard? I have ADHD and driving puts me to sleep...

It would drive me crazy personally but I know someone who plays a recording of a Metronome in the car (and when doing other stuff) as apparently it helps with their ADHD.

It's not the driving that's stressful i like driving and am good at it . it's delivering a **** tonne of parcels in short periods , hgv you deliver less and in wider areas well the role I want anyway , I've only been at it 2 weeks but its getting a lot easier and actually enjoyable .ADHD is still there so medication may benefit work, may not even go for medication just interested if others are legally allowed to while driving hgv

Multi dropping a 7.5 and over for say a pallet network can still be stressful but like you say it’s overall less work than messing around handballing individual parcels all day.
