Just to update you guys. I've been using the 330 for 3 weeks now since my original post above asking for feedback. I'm averaging 60mpg overall with most business journeys of between 50-100 miles returning 70-80mpg if I start with a full charge. I can get from home to the M1 which is about 10 miles and leave 40% on the battery, so that leaves me doing the cruise part of my journey on petrol.
At the weekend, short trips ferrying my lad around and shopping with the wife are 100% electric and with Economy 7 charging that means about 4p per mile vs 15p+ on gas.
As a company car driver, it is indeed a no brainer. My previous car was a 320D, this one has 80 bhp more, goes like stink, and costs me about £140 less per month in tax (as a 40% tax payer). The only real downside I see is none of my clients have charge facilities so my return mpg is always way lower. For example I did 90 miles to Tewkesbury earlier this week and achieve 83.3mpg outbound average and only 48mpg coming back.
That said, there's no way this car should be getting the company car tax breaks that it does when it will only do 18 miles max on electric. The revenue are restructuring the tax next year I think to introduce a distance calculation so to get the lowest BiK values you need to achieve 150+ electric miles per charge, which, environmentally speaking, makes more sense.
