Any airline that allows you to carry on lots of stuff?

Most American Airlines allow 23kg (50lb) weight for your main cabin bag, you can then have a secondary personal item such as a laptop bag or even a backpack.

Which American Airlines serve Vietnam from the UK or even operate convenient connecting services? Not really sure how that information helps him.

I doubt there are many airlines that are fussy over cabin baggage weight. I have never, ever had my cabin baggage weighed on a long haul flight.

The post title just asks for airlines that allow you to carry a lot of stuff.

And yes, I have had my cabin bag weighed several times. Once by air Berlin and once by air France.

As the title says. What airlines allow you to carry your camera gear along inside the plane?

Most airlines seem to only allow you carry 5-7kg only! That is barely enough for one light lens and a smallish DSLR nevermind bringing a couple other lenses or using semi pro DSLR's.

What are you experiences in this matter?

I am planning to go vietnam next month with literally just a medium sized backpack(the fstop loka) And it will have a 5d3 none gripped, 16-35L f2.8, 24-70 f2.8L and a 70-200 f2.8 L.

It will also contain a few spare clothes, bits and bobs(creames. asthma pump etc), ipad 10inch and my carbon fibre 2x series Gitzo tripod.

I do not want to check this in the baggage at all!

i could transfer some of my clothes to another small bag but the purpose of this whole trip is to just have a backpack and me mobile. i do not wanna lug around extra bags!

Thoughts?

i would liek to fly with these lot http://www.csair.com/en/faq/static/ssxdxlxz.shtml as they seem cheapest for plane tickets

Be aware that you will have a hard time getti get he tripod through security. I have had to check my cabin bag because it had a tripod in it and they refused to let it go through, this was in Rome. Another flight I was taking I needed to fly with a tripod so I called up before hand and they said it is best to check it but I fight be able to take it though, it depends on whether the security guys think it couldbe used as weapon this was Geneva airport.

Don't listen to those saying they never have had their bags weighed. Many do, and not so long ago my other half's mum got stung (her fault), and the extra she had to pay was 40 odd quid. As much as you don't want to a suitcase might just save you the hassle.

I flew with Qatar to Bangkok in November and people had some crazy sized bags being taken on as hand luggage. I think it's only really the cheap no-frills airlines that care so much about the size and weight of hand luggage.

grrr i was hoping i could take it onbaord. it is quite a small size tripod. guess i have to just throw it inside another small bag.

So long as i can bring my backpack inside with me as hand luggage im fine

well said, i have been to the philippines laods of times and most of the time they always weigh my bags!

Any normal aairline will not weigh it.
I've taken 12 kg on board before.

That said I flew with thomson on Tuesday on a dreamliner and didn't buy checked luggage. The check in clerk weighed my carryon and it was 5kg over. This was a desperate attempt to fleece me out of £75.
Luckily I managed to resolve the situation

As long as it looks small it should be fine as they don't weight it unless they see the need.

However if you are checking in a bag too, most airlines I've been with check and weigh your hand baggage at check in also.

Should be fine, just make sure it's ridiculously big and you put it in someone else's luggage bin so they have to sit for the duration of the flight with their reasonably sized bag under their feet. :p

I fly a fair amount, always have two cabin bags with me these days and I've never seen anyone having theirs weighed and it has never happened to me. That said, there is a limit so I'd check what that limit is for your airline and try and be as close to it as possible.

China Southern is only about £5 cheaper than Quatar and I'm going to go out on a limb and say that the Quatar flight might be a better experience. Going by the luggage allowances and so on it might even work out cheaper if you get "caught".

Quatar are a part of OneWorld, China Southern are a fringe part of SkyTeam who are, in my experience, the bottom of the three major alliances.

Oh and FYI the cheapest flight is £650 with China Southern and £654 with Quatar - search based on 14 nights and departing at any point in January.

The China Southern flight is via Guangzhou and the Quatar flight is via Doha.

If cost is more important than any other factor, you can get there in January for £516 (disregarding any low-cost airlines that might get you there) flying with Turkish Airlines via Istanbul and Bangkok.

Cabin baggage definitely does get weighed by some airlines as mine has been checked, but only once out of circa 25-30 international flights so unlikely to be an issue unless the bag is visibly very heavy.

I dont mind the cost so long as its not over 1k for the flight but if there is a £600 flight thats as good or just slightly inferior then 8--+ that cathay/emirates charge then by all means let me know!

I flew with cathay to philippines loads of times but most of the time they always weighed my hand luggage! ALWAYS.

Infact, There was one time i got in a 20min convo/argument explaining to them i am carrying my camera and laptop with me.

Guess how i rectified the matter? I basically qued up on another counter and the guy did not weigh it!

There are quite a few fare rules on this one although nothing dramatic - you only need a 3 day advance purchase which is usually a killer with the very cheapest fares.

I had my hand luggage weighed going out to Egypt in November.

7.2Kg

"Only allowed 5kg sir yada yada, you'll have to transfer some to your hold luggage".

Wait a minute, my hold luggage allowance is 20Kg + 5kg of dive equipment.
My hold luggage is 22.5kg and your rules state I can have a maximum of 23Kg in one bag... and I am only allowed one hold bag?
Where am I supposed to keep the other 2Kg's then?

"Do you have a laptop in your hand luggage sir"

Why, yes I do.

"could you remove it from the hand luggage sir"

I can.. Oh look 5.0Kg precisely *Insert smug look

"That's OK sir you can carry your laptop seperately but you mustn't put it in the hand luggage"

ooooookkkkkkk.....

Boarding pass, tickets, passport... thank you.. bye bye

*puts it back in hand luggage..
