Any chance of a list of what gfx cards need what psu?

r9 290 = 750w

r9 290 doesn't really need a 750 watt PSU a decent quality 650 watt could handle it fine but probably if you wanted to do some good overclocking on your system including your CPU then it would be safer to go with a 750watt but still probably wouldn't exceed 650 watts anyway.

500 Watts ^^^^

Your being sucked in by marketing ;) spend more on bigger PSU's, more than you need.

A good 600 watt PSU is plenty for a 290.

thats a fair comment but i have just had an issue where my cheapo 880 watt wasn't man enough to run the card so to the op just make sure whatever you do choose make sure its good quality :)

Oh for sure if you buying bargain basement PSU's then 750 watt would be required.

Having said that a £60 600 Watt PSU is infinitely better than a £40 750 Watt PSU.
as a matter of fact that £40 750 Watt PSU is probably only putting out 450 Watts on the 12 Volt Rail while with the more expensive 600 Watt your getting just about what it says on the box.

A high quality 550w psu will be fine for any single gpu setup. The only exception would be if you have an overclocked power hungry cpu such as the fx8350 or 3930k

For a mid range gpu such as the gtx 670, 7950 or lower a 400-450 psu will be perfectly fine even with room for overclocking (again assuming you have a power efficient cpu such as a 2500k/3770k)

Soon to be 3570k/MSI 780 Gaming OC edition owner on 600w Corsair, don't expect any problems even when clocked but feel I might be pushing it!

I'm liking the newer PSU's with Eco modes.

Corsair AX760 / AX860 - Fan doesn't need to kick in unless it exceeds just over 450 or 500 Watts depending on PSU. 7 year warranty on the AX series.

Same with the SuperFlower Leadex Platinum 1000W or EVGA Supernova P2 1000W. 10 year warranty on the EVGA unit.
