Any chance of an iPhone coming with USB-C early next year

If iPhone 15 doesn’t have a port, I would get the 14 instead since I much prefer charging via cable. It’s just more energy efficient and faster.
I would hate to have a mobile phone without a charging port as you would need to keep a wireless charger on you all the time for when you need to charge the phone away from home (I.e work, car, hotel rooms, from Battery banks,At Friends houses etc, etc)

Like i said above i almost always charge my mobile phones by wireless at home but i always charge by a cable when am not at home

Just created a 5 minute video on my iPhone. File size was 719MB, I synced it to iCloud and tried to download it on my PC by connecting to iCloud. Transfer rate was 2.49MB/s but it crapped out at 20%. So looks like iCloud only good for transferring smallish files.

I have got a 250GB external USB 2.0 hard drive and transfer rates on that are between 10MB/s to 25MB/s so between 80 to 200Mbit/s. My IPad Pro downloads at about 350Mbit/s according to a speed test so about 43.75MB/s.

So theoretically Airdrop WiFi downloads are about twice the speed of the USB 2.0 lightning port.

My internet speed is a gigabit and I get that with my PC connected by Ethernet. If I do a speedtest with my iPad Pro the download speed tops out at 350Mbit/s. This suggests the bottleneck is WiFi.

Its not an exact science anyway so take my findings with a pinch of salt.

What is your upload speed though?

I'm not getting a new iPhone (or phone) if I can help it (ie, lost or broken) unless it has USB C charging.

Same goes for pretty much everything portable.

But I only really want an iPhone if it has USB-C
Rumour is the iPhone 15 might come with USB-C but it'll only be the Pro devices that support the speed increase, otherwise it'll be gimped to USB 2.0 (because Apple) - https://www.macrumors.com/2022/11/16/iphone-15-high-speed-data-transfer/
Won't really know if that is the case until the iPhone rumour mill is in full swing next summer before they're launched in September.

Otherwise, if you wanted an iPhone sooner then you're only real option is to use Lightening to USB-C cable(s) or adaptors.

Currently looking for a Windows alternative to Airdrop, there are some apparently but I’m finding it complicated to work out.
Typically i use Snapdrop (well worth looking at) or Box/Dropbox, or just mount a network share within the Files app.

Piggy-backing off this, I can't believe how expensive USB-A/C -> Lightning cables are. If I want a 2m official Apple one I'm looking at £35 in the Apple store. I had a quick look on Amazon and found a plethora of cheap cables, accompanied by reviews of peoples' houses nearly catching file using them. Either pay less and get flames, or pay loads for the real deal.

Does anybody have a reasonably priced recommendation for a USB-A -> Lightning cable?

OCUK don't sell them, so any links appreciated!

Yeah I was looking at £16.50 for an official Apple USB A to lightning cable. I’ve got a USB C to USB A adapter coming which was £2.19 from eBay. It shouldn’t catch fire as it’s only going into a USB port and not into a wall power outlet.

Received my £2.19 USB C to USB A adapter today, and it works. Not much more to say, better than spending £16.50 on a USB A to lightning cable.

Just checked it doesn't work with the USB C to USB C iPad Pro, tried my cheap one and also the Crucial one I got with the external SSD drive I got for my brothers Xmas present and neither allow iPad Pro connection.

So a good job I have USB C on the back of my PC for iPad Pro.

EDIT: Just tried transferring a 688MB video file to my PC using the cheap adapter, its temperamental. Works sometimes but not others. Whereas the Crucial one works every time. So I've ordered a Crucial one instead its £7.88 ex VAT but you get what you pay for.

You can get USBA to lightning cables for far less than £16.50. Looking at one now that’s £2.99.

Those cheap ones can be dodgy, especially if you use it to plug into wall power outlet. They can catch fire. Anyway the transfer speeds are not limited by the adapter. I get about 6MB/s transfer rates from iPhone but if I connect an external SSD USB C hard drive to the adapter I get 350MB/s transfer rates.
